Description

UNITE TAEF OFFICE EMMA T. PORTER, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
CLOTHES-DRIER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 21,626, dated September 28, 1858.
T0 all 'whom 25 may concern.'
Be it known that I, EMMA T. PORTER, of Vl/lashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clothes-Driers; and I hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in Which- Figure l is a front view; Fig. 2 is a side view, and Fig. 3 is a vertical view of the base, or horizontal section.
rlhe nature of this invention consists in the construction of a light, adjustable trame peculiarly adapted to the drying of clothes by a stove re, and that, when not in use, may be so closed or adjusted as to occupy no considerable space, and may be conveniently hung up against the Wall of a room.
A balance rack consisting of tivo side rails A A, connected by several cross-bars or rods m m, is mounted by central pivots (the tivo ends of the middle cross-bar projecting through the side rails for that purpose) upon tivo posts B B, which are connected at or near the bottom by a stout beam D, to the underside of which is connected by a central pin or pivot c, a revolving foot F. The two ends of the second cross-bar of the rack A m, extend through the side rails, and terminate in pivots e e, to Which are connected the upper ends of two adjustable braces l I; and the lower ends of the braces are adjusted upon tivo pins n n, which project trom the tivo posts B B.
Through each brace are several holes (r 7*) large enough to pass over the pins u, so that by adjusting the different holes uponvthe said pins, the balance rack is adjusted in various positions, and degrees of inclination, as represented in Fig. 2. By means of this adjustability ot' the balance rack, the clothes 4which may be placed upon the cross-bars and supporting braces with the pivoted stand or foot piece substantially as and for the purpose specied.
