UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL B. RANDALL, OF GLOVER, VERMONT.
IMPROVEMENT lN CLOTHES-DRIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,593, dated August 29, 1876; application filed February 17, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DANIEL B. RANDALL, of Glover, in the county of Orleans and State of Vermont, have made certain Improvements in Olothes-Driers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation, showing the clothes-rack folded down. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same, showing the clothes-rack extended as When in use.
My invention relates to clothes-driers; and the nature thereof consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, hereinafter shown and described.
' A, in the drawing, represents a portion of the Wall to which the clothes-drier is secured. B is the strip or guide, having grooves z in its opposite edges, into which inwardly-projecting parts of the movable blocks a fit. G is a bar, connecting the blocks a, and to which they are secured. To the upper extremity of the bar 0 is secured a horizontal rail, F, and to which is hinged or pivoted at three points, 6, the rack D. To the lower extremity of the bar 0 is pivoted a brace, f, having holes at pierced through its sides, into which a pin, 0, fits. The middle bar 0 of the frame of the rack D is provided with a slot, m, of a proper size to admit the outer extremity of the bracebar f. The outer extremity of the rack D is supported at the desired angle by resting on the pin 0, inserted in one of the holes a of the brace-barf, as is clearly shown in Fig. 3. To the bar 0 is pivoted a knee-pawl, b, the inner point of which engages with notches g in the guide B automatically, perior weight-of its opposite extremity.
The object of this knee-pawl is to sustain the sliding portion of the clothes-drier at any desired height on the strip B,, to lower it when it may be desired to place clothing upon it, and then to sustain it in the upper and warmer part of the room after being loaded, by which the drying process would be facilitated.
When not in use the rack D can be folded down, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
I claim as improvements upon the clothesdrier for which Letters Patent were granted to me September 17, 1867, No. 69,023
A clothes-drier consisting of the guide B, having grooves i in its opposite edges and notches g in its face, the bar 0, the pawl b, the blocks a, the horizontal rail F, the rack D, and the brace f, all combined and relatively arranged as and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 28th day of January, 1876.
DANIEL B. RANDALL.
