No. 215,416. Patented May 13,1879.
m n e m I NITED STATES PATENT OEETGEc RAPHAEL VOGEL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO T. A. VOGEL, OF SAME PLACE.
| MPROVEM ENT IN VESTS.
v Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 215,416, dated May 13, 1879; application filed ...March 7, 1879.v
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RAPHAEL VOGEL, of the city of Philadelphia, in the county ot' Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wearing Apparel; and I do hereby declare that the following` is aiull, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention consists in constructing a vest or jacket with a yoke made of any suitable material, arranged with its head in the back and its ends in the front of the same, and provided with straps, rings, or other devices, by means of which the ends of the yoke may be connected with the pantaloons for supporting the seme.
The object of this improvement in the construction of vests or jackets is to furnish a cheap and convenient substitute for the ordinary suspender, which, by its broad bearing, will distribute the weight or strain of the pantaloons evenly upon the shoulders, and at the same time.cause the vest to sit smoothly and close to the body.
Figure l is a front view of the vest upon a person, showing the front ends of the yoke and one of the attachments in dotted lines, and also showing one side of the vest turned up, and another attachment or plan of suspending the pantaloons from the yoke 5 and Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same, showing the head ofthe yoke and one method ot' suspending the back side of the pantaloons from it.
In the drawings, A represents a vest or jacket, made in any of the usual styles; B, a yoke, made of any suitable material and of the required form for insertion and attachlment between the external and interior parts ofthe vest, with head a, terminating near the lower end of the back, and the ends c d, near the lower ends ot' the front sides, as shown in the figures. When the yoke is thus arranged and suitably fastened in position, rings, straps, or other suitable devices C are placed on the inner side of the vest and attached to the ends of the yoke, as shown in both figures. This attachment may be made by sewingthread or by some mechanical device, if de sired.
From the rings or straps the pantaloons may be suspended in any of the ordinary ways, as shown in the figures. In whatever way the connection is made, it will be seen that, as the yoke stretches across the back between the shoulders and over the same,
the weight of the pantaloons will be evenly distributed and the vest caused to ht closely and smoothly; that the connection can always be quickly and easily made, and that the device will be a complete substitute `for the ordinary suspender.
Having thus described my invention, lwhat I claim is- A vest or jacket, A, provided with a yoke, B, having its forked ends c d in the front of the vest, and its head or rear end, a, in the back of the same, and furnished with suitable devices for connecting these ends with the pantaloons, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing asv RAPHAEL VOGEL.
