Description
G. W. GRAHAMV Glove-Tree.
No. 215,347. Patented May 13, 1879.
. @itmssss: Jaws/hm I ATTOKN E'Y UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFIGE.
GEORGE W. GRAHAM, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN GLOVE-TREES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 215,347, dated May 13, 1879 application filed March 10, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. GRAHAM, of the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Trees for Dyeing, Cleaning, and Fitting Gloves, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which-- Figures 1 and 2 are views of opposite sides of the form embodying my invention. Fig. 3 is'a section in line :20 m, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an edge view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention consists of a glove-tree having a sliding thumb-piece, whereby the glove may be readily applied and removed.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a piece of wood or other material which somewhat simulates the back, palm, and four fingers of the human hand, the back and palm portions B being lengthened for convenience of handling the form or tree. On one face of the portion B is cut or formed a dovetailed way, (3, which extends diagonally, and receives a sliding strip, D, having at what may be termed its upper end a rigid thumb-shaped piece, E, formed with or secured thereto. In the portion B is also a slot, F, which coincides with the way 0, and is adapted to receive the thumb-piece E. v
The strip D is sufficiently long to be properly operated as a handle, and the thumbpiece and strip are of such thickness that their surfaces are flush with the portion B, as illustrated in Fig. 3.
The operation is as follows: The stripD is drawn down or out to full extent, and the thumb-piece is stopped against the lower or inner termination of the wall of the slot F, the parts assuming position as in Fig. 1. The four fingers and body of the glove may now be drawn on the form, the thumb-piece presenting no obstacle thereto. Then move or extend the strip D, and by properly handling the thumb of the glove the piece E may be inserted thereinto, whereby the glove may be dyed, cleansed, fitted, stitched, or otherwise treated in a convenient manner.
As the thumb-piece is movable, it is adapted or adjustable for different sizes of thumbs of gloves.
When the work is accomplished the strip D is drawn down or out, whereby the piece E slides into or within the slot F, and presents no projection beyond the side of the portion B. The glove may then be withdrawn from the form without (lifficulty, as there is no obstruction of the rigid thumb-piece.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The glove-tree having a sliding thumbpiece, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The glove-tree A B, in combination with the sliding thumb-piece and operating strip or handle I), substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
GEO. W. GRAHAM.
