Galvanic Collar-Pad.
No. 214,816. Patented April 29,1879.
H. 1 ETERS. PHOTO LITHGGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. D
UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HERMANN O. FUNK AND WILLIAM J. BENNETT, OF FOX LAKE, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNORS TO SAID FUNK.
IMPROVEMENT IN GALVANIC COLLAR-PADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 214,816, dated April 29, 1879; application filed a February 10, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HERMANN O. FUNK and WILLIAM J. BENNETT, of Fox Lake, in the county of Dodge and State of Wisconsin, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Galvanic Collar-Pads; and we do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a section on the line X X, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a crosssection taken on the line y y.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
This invention relates to collar-pads for harness; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts of a galvanic collar-pad, substantially as hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings, A is a piece of leather, forming the pad proper which is crimped into the shape represented in Fig. 1, and provided with the side straps, B B, and a middle band or strap, 0, uniting the two upward-curved ends or flanges a a of the pad. D is a copper plate, E a zinc plate, and F a sheet-iron covering-plate, all cut and formed into the same shape, bent down at the sides, and their respective ends curved up, to conform to the shape of the middle part of pad A, upon which they are placed in the order named, one upon the other, and secured in place by rivets b b I), one at each end and one in the middle, inserted through the central strap, 0, as shown.
Upon each side of the ridge or middle part of this compound pad is formed a series of perforations, d d, passing clear through the several layers. These perforations serve the double purpose of ventilation and of permitting the animal moisture to reach the copper and zinc contact-plates D E, causing galvanic action, the healing properties of which is well known, and which manifests itself through the perforations d in the leather pad. The superimposed iron plate F serves in the double capacity of a stiffener and to protect plates D and E, placed underneath.
Having thus described our invention, we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The galvanic collar-pad herein described, composed of the leather pad A, copper and zinc contact-plates D E, and superimposed iron stiffening-plate F, placed one upon the other, and provided with a double series of perforations, d 01, substantially as and for th purpose shown and set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we have hereto affiXed our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
HERMANN c. FUNK. WILLIAM J. BENNETT.
