Description
P. J. CLARK 82; J. KINTZ Drip-Dish for Lamps.
No. 214,365. Pat'ented April 15, 1879.
INVENTOR WITNESS JW f ORNEYS.
N. PETERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASH NGTON 0 C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PARTRICK J. CLARK AND JOSEPH KINTZ, OF WEST MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRIP-DISHES FOR LAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 214.365, dated April 15, 1879; application filed February 25, 1879.
10 all whom it may concern Be it known that we, PARTRIOK J. CLARK and JOSEPH KINTZ, of West Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Drip- Dish for Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
The object of our invention is to furnish a fount-holder and drip-dish for lamps for collecting the oil that drips from the fountain.
Our invention consists in a drip'dish, of glass or similar material, adapted for attachment to a bracket or stand, and fitted with a metal fount-holder, whereby the lamp is securely held.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of our improved drip-dish. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation on line w w of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is a shallow dish, made with flaring sides, and formed with a shank, a, upon its under side, by which it is attached to a metal screwsocket, b, the connection being made with plaster-of-paris,in the usual manner. The dish A is made of glass. porcelain, or similar material, and more or less ornamental in form, as may be desired. In the bottom of the dish A there is secured a plate, 0, of metal, from the center of which rises a stud or pin, d, that enters the central aperture of the lamp-fountain, (not shown,) and retains the lamp in place. The pin 61 is preferably made of wire, bent double, and secured firmly to plate a. The
plate a is secured in place by inserting it into a bed of plaster-of-paris in the bottom of the dish A, and when in use the lamp-fountain rests upon this plate, so that the dish is strengthened, and there is no liability of the dish being broken by contact of the lamp.
The dish is to be attached to a lamp stand or bracket by its screw-socket b. The flaring sides of the dish A surround the lower part of the fount when the lamp is in place, so that there is a space between the fount and the dish A, and the oil overflowing from the lamp will run into the cup and be retained.
The dish A being of glass or similar material, the oil will not spread upon its surface and run over the edge as it would if the cup were of metal, and the glass is more easily cleansed than metal.
The pin 11 will hold the fount securely and prevent its displacement by any sudden movement of the lamp stand or bracket.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. Adrip-dish for lamps, constructed of glass or similar material, and fitted with a metal fount-holder, substantially as described and shown, and for the purposes set forth.
2. A drip-dish and fount-holder for lamps, consisting of the dish A, of glass or similar material, provided with a screw'socket, b, and fitted with the plate 0 and pin d, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
