Description

L. G. ENGLAR DISPLAY DEVICE Filed Oct. 29, 1935 Nov. 1, 1938.
INVENTOR. 6: [fly/4r.
Jay/129 I BY Patented Nov. 1, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ,DISPLAY DEVICE Lillian G. Englar, Crestwood, Yonkers,= N. 2., as-
signor, by mesne assignments, to Double E. Patents, Inc., New York, N. Y.
Application October 29, 1935, Serial No. 47,268
3 Claims.
late the top row or layer of the article or articles usually packed for sale in said container, and a false bottom of said dummy container in which is a self-contained easel and hanging device.
, m In displaying various articles, the box or container in which the articles are sold is frequently displayed opened, so that the top row of the.
articles is exposed. Such method of display is used in connection with various articles, such as cigarettes, candy, cigars, and tobacco products.
My invention is designed to provide an improved form of blanked sheet for producing such dummies complete and integral.
of flanges to. simulate a dummy box or carton with a rigid open coverpiece, and a self-contained easel and hanging device. 33 Figure 3 is a longitudinal section of the formed article.
Figure 4 is a cross section thereof. Figure 5 is a bottom view of the formed article. In Figure 2, area A represents the face of the dummy, which simulates an opened box upon which may be pasted, fastened or otherwise mounted embossed or moulded simulation or simulations of the articles displayed.
Area B represents the rigid dummy lid or coverpiece, of the same dimensions as the face of the box simulated.
Area C constitutes the bottom of the dummy when folded under along the scored lines, and 50 contains area D, which is an easel leg device having as a support E, which in turn is inserted into hole or opening F at an angle to complete a rigid brace for the easel leg device. v
GI in area B is a cut-scored device having a punched hole G2 all of which when bent back along the scored line therein forms a self-contained hanging device,
Areas HI on the left and right sides of area A when bent downward are the flanged sides of the dummy box being formed. Areas H2 adjoining areas HI fold upward, and are of slightly greater depth to simulate the raised sides or ends of a. cigaror similar box.
Area J when bent downward forms the front of the dummy box.
Areas KI represent the evenly divided backpiece of the dummy box, and these areas Kl after being folded under area B'are fastened firmly to area K2, which in turn folds down from out of area B.
'Areas L are the fastening means, which when bent around and under the area A join with and behind area J, and makes for a complete and. sturdy box frame.
Area M when bent downward and then the bottom swung under area A may be fastened to areas KI and K2, thus holding the bottom C in position underneath of area A.
All scored lines, bending adjacent areas downward, are shown in light solid lines; all scored lines bending adjacent areas upward are shown in broken lines.' All out scores are shown in heavily drawn solid lines on the drawing herewith.
As stated, the invention may be applied to products other than cigars, whether "Cellophane wrapped or not. Any product that is displayed in a container, in which it is sold, with the container open during such display and the product subject to deterioration, can be displayed or advertised in this manner by embossing or moulding'exact simulation or simulations of the products, and pasting, fastening or otherwise mounting said embossed or moulded simulation or simulations to the face of the dummy box-form pro- 40 vided herein.
The advantages of the invention in connection with cigars will be readily apparent to one familiar with the merchandising of this product. The cost of the usual wood or board box or container is materially absorbed by this self-formed dummy box with false bottom, having aself-contained easel and a cut-out for standing or hanging purposes. This self-contained easel and self-contained hanging device greatly facilitates ready display and is novel in its application to practical window-trimming.
I claim:
1. A blank sheet for dummy displays of the character described scored to bound 9. face area I portion shaped and adapted to form a top member of a simulatedpackage, side-forming areas integral with the face portion at three respective sides thereof, the said side-forming areas at upposite edges of the face area having integral end representing extensions projected oppositely from the face area. a distance greater than the corresponding dimensions of the respective side-forming areas whereby when the said respective sideforming areas are folded downwardly at right angles to the face area and said end-representing extensions are bent upwardly close against the respective joined side-forming areas the outer .edges of the upbent parts project above and beside the face area for the purposes described.
2. The structure of claim 1 in which the fourth side of the face area is formed with a lid extension, and said side-forming areas at opposite edges of the face area having supplementary sideforming areas integral with their edges adjacent the lid extension foldable into close relation to form a side under the lid extension, a tongue integral with said fourth side struck from'the material of the lid to lap the involved ends last named.
3. A blank sheet for dummy displays of the character described scored to define a main face shaped and adapted to form a top element in a simulated package, a lid part integral with one edge of the main face, andside-forming areas integral with the main face at the remaining three edges thereof, the side-forming area opposite the lid part having an integral bottomextension from its outer edge foldable under and in spaced relation to said main face and having a terminal part attachable to the other two sideforming areas, means integral with the blank for attaching the last named three elements; said bottom extension having an easel leg formed therein hinged adjacent the outer edge of the bottom extension in the blank and said leg having formed therewithin a tongue extending longitudinally of the leg and hinged adjacent the swinging end of the leg, said bottom extension having a slot at its inner part between the leg and the line of fold of the bottom extension, the end of'said tongue being formed to interlock in the slot.
