Description

July 5, 1938. PARR T 2,122,583
DEVICE FOR CLEANING AND KEEPING ARTIFICIAL DENTURES Filed Sept. 25, 1935 INYCNTO'R,
-Q A -r'ry GUn'Hner 3355+ Patented July 5, 1938 PATENT OFFICE DEVICE. Fort CLEANING AND KEEPING ARTIFICIAL neurones Giinther Parlzot, Adolfsberg, Stockholm, Sweden Application September 25,1935, Serial No. 42,021 In Sweden October 22, 1934 3 Claims.
This invention relates to a device for cleaning and enclosing an artificial denture which has been removed from the mouth of the wearer, and has reference particularly to a receptacle adapted to contain a cleaning fluid and to a holder or clamp, which is adapted to receive and hold an artificial denture, and which fits within the receptacle to hold the denture immersed in the cleaning fluid.
Artificial dentures are usually removed from the wearers mouth before retiring and immersed in water or in a. sterilizing fluid during the night. It is desirable to do this because food and other foreign material has a. tendency to adhere to the plate and teeth and the action of the fluid causes the deposits to soften and to be easy to remove.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a holder adapted especially to clamp about an artificial denture and hold it firmly in position, while the arrangement is being placed in a closed receptacle partly filled with a cleaning fiuid and subjected to a shaking movement to bring the fluid into contact with all parts of the denture.
I accomplish this object by means of the several embodiments of my invention, described in the following specification, set forth in the appended claims, and illustratively exemplified in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a vertical section of the device according to one embodiment, the said section being taken along lines II of Fig. 2 the cover being in closed position.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken along the lines 11-11 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an elevational view of the holder with the type of base for the artificial denture shown in the embodiment according to Figs. 1 and 2.
Fig. 4 is an end view, and
Fig. 5 a plan view of the holder with the base according to another embodiment of the invention. I
Fig. 6 is an end view, and
Fig. '7 a side view of the holder with the base according to a third embodiment.
In the embodiment according to Figs. 1 to 3 the numeral I denotes the container which may be closed in a liquid tight manner by a cover 2. The holder comprises a base 4 in the shape of a bottom plate upon which the artificial denture rests, the plate being provided with two oppositely disposed uprights 5, the upper ends of which are connected by a yoke 6. On the uprights 5 there is disposed a holder slidable towards and away from the base 4, which holder consists of two end pieces 1 connected to each other by means of two stays 8. Between the end pieces 1 there are fixed screw springs Ill to form a spring cradle disposed substantially par- 5 allel to the bottom plate 4. If desired the said springs may also be connected to each other by means of similar springs not shown. The holder I, 8 is slidable on the uprights 5 and there is sufficient friction between the parts to hold the 10 holder 1, 8 in any desired elevation.
A leaf-spring H is fixed to the upper side of the yoke 6 or it may be fixed to the underside of the base 4 instead of to the yoke.
This device is used in the following manner:
When the used denture is to be cleaned, the cover 2 is removed from the container l and the holder 1, 8 with the base 4 is removed from the container by means of the yoke 6. The denture P is then placed upon the base 4 and the holder 1, 8 0 is moved towards the denture, until the springs ill under tension cause the denture to engage against the base 4.
' Because of the adjustable feature of the holder l, 8 it is possible to use the device for artificial 25 dentures of any shape and size.
When the denture has been clamped to the base it is placed along with the holder into the container l which contains the cleaning liquid. The cover 2 is then put on. During this period; the cleaning liquid disintegrates the mucous layer (soft tartar) adhered to the teeth and which is otherwise insoluble in water. This procedure is carried out by grasping the closed container l in such a way that the cover 2 cannot leave its place, and then by shaking the container thoroughly. Since the base 4 and the holder 1, 8 are held in the container by the leaf spring H, the said members along with the denture 40 are held in fixed position during the shaking.
When the denture is to be taken from the container the cover 2 is removed and the denture along with the holder 1, 8 and the base 4 are lifted outwardly by means of the yoke 6.
In the embodiment according to Figs. 4' and 5 the holder 1, 8 is provided with a number of leaf springs l4 adapted to press the denture against the base 4.
According to the embodiment illustrated in 50 Figs. 6 and 7 the holder 1, 8 is provided with an elastic band or cord 12 which is inserted in recesses [3 in the uprights 5 and which is adapted to hold the denture against the base 4.
Having now described my invention, what I 55 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: r
1. In a device for leaning and enclosing an.
artificial denture. the combination with a con- 5 tainer having a liquid tight closure therefor, of a denture holder removably disposed within ti he container and having resilient means, for yieidably engaging the container to retain' the holder against movement when the container is agitated, said holder comprising a base plate to support the denture thereon and having peripherally disposed uprights spaced apart to permit lateral insertion of the denture therebetween, and yieldabl clamping 'means adjustable over the uprights and in engagement with the 'zleninu'ev to retain the latter in the holder.
2. 'In a device for cleaning and enclosing an artificial denture, the combination with a container having a liquid tight closure therefor,
of a denture holder 'for said container, comprising a base plate provided with peripherally disposed uprights and resilient means to yieldably engage the icontainer in closed position thereof to prevent movement of the holder within the 2 closed container, a slide clamping member amuse guided over said ugfirights and yieldable means suspended in said clamping member to engage a denture placed upon the base plate and to hold the same within the holder. 1
3. In a device for cleaning andenclosing an arttflcial denture, the combination with a container having a liquid tight closure therefor,
of a denture holder remog'fably disposed within the container, comprising "a base plate to rest upright oppositely and peripherally disposed guide posts, resilient means to yieldab y engage the container in closed position thereof t6 prevent movement of the holder therein, a? slide frame carried and guided on said posts and adapted to be adjusted relatively t6 the base, and
aspring cradle disposed 'fsubstantially parallel upon the bottom 6! the container provided with 10 qtlN'rHER PARIZOT.
