The principal object of the invention is to construct a hand punch with a stripper bar which is placed between the two jaws of the punch and is held iirmly in position by means of a` separate holding member which in turn is formed in such a manner that it assists in limiting the movement of the two jaws, one bearing a punch and the other a cutting die.
It is an important object of the invention to form and place the stripper bar in such a manner that it cannot move laterally after it has been secured in position. 'Ihis is accomplished by employing a transverse holding member or bar and a stud which t into two openings in the stripper bar. One of the openings in the stripper bar is a circular opening and back of it is a rectangular opening. The stud or punching which seats in the circular opening is formed in the lower jaw and the holding member, the lower end of which extends through the rectangular aperture in the stripper bar and through the jaw, is secured to the same jaw. The upper end of the holding member or bar is bent to limit the movement of the other or upper jaw.
Another object of the invention is to form the stripper bar with an outer curved portion for the ready guidance of the card or paper between the jaws, and to provide an adjacent aperture through which the punch passes, and to maintain this stripper bar in such a way that the punch and the aperture in the stripper bar always register.
A further object of the invention is to secure in the jaw containing the die a pivoted carrier for the cuttings from 5the papers, cards or other material which have been punched.
The invention will be further understood by reference to the accompanying drawing which shows one embodiment of the invention, but it will be understood that modifications, variations and changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as shown in the claims hereinafter set forth.

The hand punch of the invention has the two jaw members, the upper jaw I0 and the lower jaw II. These jaws are formed with channels, each jaw having a face portion and side walls extending therefrom. Formed integrally with the upper jaw Il) is the handle I2 and formed integrally with the lower jaw II is the handle I3. The two jaws with their respective handles are pivoted at I4 and are forced apart on the pivot I4 by the spring I5 having the linger or loop ring I6.
The upper jaw Il) is provided with the punch II and the lower jaw II is provided with the cutting die I8. The cuttings from the hand punch pass through the aperture I9 in the die I8 into the chamber of the cuttings container 2|) which is pivotally secured at 2| between the side walls of the lower jaw II.
A stripper bar 22, used for stripping or removing the card, paper or other material from the male die after the cutting, is secured between the two jaws I i) and II substantially parallel to the top surface of the lower jaw II. The stripper bar 22 is formed with the main body portion 23 having at one end the punch hole 24 and the up-curved portion 25. This 11p-curved portion 25 is formed to more easily direct and guide the hand punch to receive the card, paper or other material in order to make the punchings. It will be noted that this upturned portion extends beyond the lower end of the punch II and prevents the paper, card or other material from abutting against the punch but causes the tickets, cards, paper or other material to slide into the space between the stripper bar 22 and the top surface of the lower jaw II.v
The inner end of the stripper bar is formed with the stepped-down portion 26. This inner stepped-down portion is narrower than the main portion 23 as indicated at its edges 21 and 28. An aperture 29, preferably circular, is for-med in the stepped-down portion 26 and a rectangular aperture 3i! is formed in the stepped-down p0rtion 26 between the round or circular aperture 23 and the inner edge 3l of the stepped-down portion. assists in forming a back wall or stop at the inner end of the space between the stripper bar and the upper face of the lower jaw to limit entry of the tickets or cards to be punched.
The lower jaw il is formed with the raised or ledge portion 32 to form a seat for the stripper bar and has the aperture 33 and the stud 34. The aperture 33 receives the lower end of the holding member or bar 35, which is arranged transversely to the upper and lower jaws, the extreme lower end being burred or punched on the under side to hold the lower end rmly in place and against the lower surface of the ledge portion 32. The stud 34 is punched or pressed tightly into the aperture 29 in the stepped-down portion 26. The raised ledge 32 combined with the lowered or stepped-down portion 26 forms the back wall or stop to limit entry of the tickets or cards to be punched.
It will thus be seen that the stripper bar 22 is rmly seated on the ledge 32 of the lower jaw i i and that by means of the stud 34 in the aperture 29 and the portion 36 of the transverse bar 35 in the rectangular opening 35, the stripper bar is securely held in place. It is especially held against lateral movement because the portion 36 of the transverse bar 35 ts tightly in the rectangular opening 36, and it is in alignment with the stud 34 in the aperture 29.
It will also be seen that because of the cutting away of the side portions of the stepped-down portion 26 as shown at 21 and 28, these sides do not come into Contact with the inner faces of the walls of the jaw I3. In other words, the prevention of lateral movement of the stripper bar 22 is because of the combined action of the portion 36 of the transverse bar 35 in the rectangular opening 3D and the punching or stud 34 in the aperture 29 and not because the sides 21 and 2S of the stripper bar contact the inner faces of the jaw I6.
The transverse bar 35 is formed with the upper hook or outturned bent portion 31, which serves as a stop or limit to the upward movement of the jaw lil after the cutting has been performed. Because the lower end 36 of the bar 35 is firmly held in the aperture 30, the jaw I cannot go beyond the stop 31. In order to form a thoroughly satisfactory seat for the out-turned stop 3i, the material at the inner end of the jaw Ill, as shown in Figures 4 and 5, is turned up at 38, the material being pushed up by means of the punching 39.
It will be observed that the inner surface oi the jaw iii at 38 terminates short of the inner end portion of the lower jaw Il to permit the proper placement of the transverse bar 35 with respect to the ledge 32 and the portion 33.
The perpendicular or transverse bar 35 is a strong and solid member formed to lit in the rectangular opening 36 with the lesser dimension portion 36 and the hook or stop 31, but the main body portion is broader and wider as shown in Figure 6; but it will be noted that the main body portion of the bar 35 is not as wide as the The oiTset or stepped-down portion 26 stepped-down portion 36 of the stripper bar and therefore does not Contact with the inner surfaces of the jaw I0 any more than do the edges 21 and 28 of the stepped-down portion 26.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-
1. In a hand punch the combination of a pair of jaws pivotally secured together, handles, a spring to normally keep the handles apart, a punch on one of the jaws and a cutting die on the other, a stripper bar between said jaws, said stripper bar being secured in two places to the inner end ofthe lower of said jaws, a transverse bar secured to the inner end of said lower jaw and extending through said lower jaw, said stripper bar and also beyond the face of said upper Jaw.
2. In a hand punch the combination of a pair of jaws pivotally secured together, handles, a spring to normally keep the handles apart, a punch on one of the jaws and a cutting die on the other, a stripper bar between said jaws, said stripper bar being secured in two places to the inner end of the lower of said jaws, a transverse bar secured to the inner end of said lower jaw and extending through said lower jaw, said stripper bar, and also beyond the face of said upper jaw, said transverse bar having abend at the upper end thereof to limit the movement of the upper of said pair of jaws.
3. In a hand punch the combination of an upper jaw, a lower jaw, each of said jaws being pivoted and formed with extending portions to form handles, a spring normally keeping said handles apart, a stripper bar, said stripper bar being located between said upper and said lower jaws, said stripper bar having its inner end reduced in size, two openings in said reduced portion of said stripper bar, one of said openings being round and the other rectangular, a rectangular opem'ng in the face of said lower jaw, a transverse bar extending through the said two rectangular openings and holding said stripper bar against lateral movement.

In a hand punch the combination of an upper jaw, a lower jaw, each of said jaws being pivoted and formed with extending portions to form handles, a spring normally keeping said handles apart, a stripper bar, said stripper bar being located between said upper and said lower jaws, said stripper bar having its inner end reduced in size, two openings in said reduced portion of said stripper bar, one of said openings being round and the other rectangular, a rectangular opening in the face of said lower jaw, a transverse bar'extending through the said two rectangular openings and holding said stripper bar against lateral movement, a stud in the face of said lower jaw, said stud tting into said circular opening and assisting in holding said stripper bar in place and against lateral move- 1 ment, said transverse bar .also being provided with a bent portion, said bent portion limiting the upward movement of the upper jaw.
6. In a hand punch the combination of an upper jaw, a lower jaw, each of said jaws being provided and formed with a handle portion, a punch on said upper jaw, a cutting die'on said lower jaw, a stud at the inner portion of the upper face of said lower jaw, a rectangular aperture at the inner portion of said lower jaw, a stripper bar, said stripper bar having an aperture at one end through which said punch passes and two apertures at the other end, one circular and the other rectangular, a transverse bar, the main body portion of said transverse bar being of greater dimension than said rectangular openings in said lower jaw and stripper bar but having one end thereof of lesser dimension which extends through said rectangular openings, and the other end thereof being also of lesser dimension formed at an angle to said main portion of said transverse bar and acting as a limiting stop to said upper jaw.
7. In a hand punch the combination of an upper jaw, a lower jaw, each ofk said jaws being provided and formed with a handle portion, a punch on said upper jaw, a cutting die on said lower jaw, a stud at the inner portion of the upper face of said lower jaw, a rectangular aperture at the inner portion of said lower jaw, a stripper bar, said stripper bar having an aperture at one end through which said punch may pass, said stripper bar having a stepped-down portion at its opposite end, said stepped-down portion being narrower than the main portion of said stripper bar, two apertures in said steppeddown portion, one a circular opening, the other a rectangular opening, a perpendicular or transverse bar, the main body portion of said transverse bar being of greater dimension than said rectangular openings in said lower jaw and stripper bar, said transverse bar having a lower portion which extends through said rectangular openings in said stepped down portion of said stripper' bar and the inner portion of said lower jaw and is secured therein, said transverse bar having an upper portion which is bent at an angle to the main portion thereof and serves as a limiting stop to said upper jaw in its movement toward and away from said lower jaw, said stud on the upper face of said lower jaw being adapted to enter and tightly t in the circular opening in the stepped-down portion of said stripper bar, the combined action of the stud in the circular opening and the transverse bar in thte rectangular openings holding said stripper bar in place between said jaws and against lateral movement.
8. In a hand punch the combination of a pair of jaws pivotally secured together, handle portions, a spring to normally keep the handle portions apart, a punch and a'die on said jaws, a stripper bar between said jaws, said stripper bar at its inner end being secured in two places to the lower of said pair of jaws, a transverse bar secured to the inner end of said lower jaw and extending through said lower jaw, said stripper bar and also beyond the face of said upper jaw, said transverse bar having a bent portion at the upper end thereof to limit the movement of the upper of said pair of jaws, and a swinging container for cuttings from said punch, said container being pivoted in said lower jaw between the side walls thereof.
