Description

May 31, 1938. P. DACE AGITATOR PADDLE Filed July 14, 1937 Inventor llllllilll'l! Prudr'e Da ce Patented May 31, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to agitators or paddles for use in butter making or the like and has for its object to provide an article of this character which is simple and practical in construction, efiicient in operation, strong and durable and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout and in which:-
Figure l is a perspective view of the paddle and Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectional View taken substantially along the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the
numeral 5 designates a handle having a reduced end 6 which is inserted in an opening in a plate member 7. A wire brace member 8 has its opposite ends attached in spaced relation to one edge of the plate I by means of screws or the like 9, the intermediate portion of the brace being bent to form an eye it) secured to the handle by a screw eye H or the like. As clearly illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawing the arms of the brace diverge from the handle outwardly toward oppo- 30 site sides of the plate to rigidly secure the plate in a position transversely with respect to the handle.
The handle is secured to the plate adjacent one edge thereof and in its opposite edge the plate is 35 formed with a series of spaced openings 12 through which are threaded flexible strips of material l3 so that the opposite ends of the strips extend from opposite sides of the plate a substantially equal distance and the strips are secured in position against the removal from the plate by 5 stitching I4 passing through both of said end sections. The strips of material l3 constitute agitating elements which have one end freely disposed with respect to the plate and positioned in spaced parallel relation with respect to each 10 other.
By means of this construction a paddle or agitator is thus provided which affords a greatly increased area for stirring or agitating the substance being worked while at the same time reducing the resistance to which a rigid paddle is subjected.
It isobvious the invention is susceptible of changes in construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is An agitator of the class described comprising a handle, a substantially rectangular plate secured to one end of said handle and positioned at right angles thereto, the lower edge of said plate being beveled and being provided with a plurality of openings, and flexible agitating members passing through said openings, the outer ends of said agitating openings being free and the intermediate portions stitched together along the beveled edge of the plate to prevent displacement.
