or webs 14, adapted to rest in cut-away portions of the upper edges of the sides and ends so that the tops otthe flanges are flush with the tops of the body.
When the legs are employed as supports for Washing machines they are ada ted to coact with moldings 15 arranged at t e meeting edges of the drum and the sides and ends. In the form shown the moldings consist of metal strips adapted to extend along the top edges of the drum andhave inturned flanges 16 projecting over and engaging the edges of the drum and interposed between the drum and the sides and ends. The legs are rovided with seats 17 in the outer edges of t ieir faces to receive the moldings. When the parts are assembled the sides and ends 6 and 7, and the upper corners of the drum extend within the angle made by the two faces of the legs, and are secured therein by suitable fas- Patented May 12, 19
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, .VILLIAM F. BLAKE, a
vey, in the county of Cook and State of Illil nois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washing Machines, of which the following is a specification, referones being had therein to the accompanying l drawing.
My invention relates to washing machines only act as supports but also serve to brace and hold the several parts constituting the body or frames of the associated machine, etc.
In the accompanying drawings in which like figures refer to the same parts-Figure 1 is a' view in perspective showing a machine embodying my invention, parts being broken away for purposes of better illustration; Fig. 2 is a view in perspective showing the inner portion of one of the legs with its lower end broken off; Fig. 3 is a detail view in elevation showing a molding seated in a recess in one of the inner faces of the leg, the several parts being broken off Fig. 4 is a detail view partly in section and partly in perspective showing the body, leg and molding, and Fig. 5 is a top plan view of parts of Fig. 1 and with parts cut away to show the fastenings.
Thenumerals 6 and 7 indicate the sides and ends of the body of a. suitable machine, such as a washing machine, to which a drum 8 is attached. The machine shown is provided on its interior with a suitable revolving cylinder (not shown), driven by a handwhee 9.
The body of the machine is provided with legs 10, which in crosssection are in the form of angle irons. The legs are preferably metallic,'and their sides 11 and 12 are of suiiicient Width to extend over or overlap the body at the 'corners, ibeingprovided with holes or perforations 13 to receive suitable L moldings 15 being of less length than the edges of the drum terminate and seat in the seats 17. The seats are provided with top and lateral shoulders whereby the moldings are held in position.
While any suitable fastening device may be employed I use the form illustrated in Fig. 5 in which internally threaded thimbles 18 are seated in counter sinks in the body and receive screws 19, the thimbles being provided with wings 20 to pre vent their turning when the screws are inserted.
While I have shown the legs in connection with a washing machine, it is to be understood that they may be employed in connection with other machines or structures, such for example as churns, tables, etc.
While the legs serve as supports they also brace and hold all the parts together and protect the corners of the drum. The top flanges serve to hold the sides and ends against upward displacement. The parts are easily and readily assembled and the top flanges serve also to bring the seats for the moldings into. proper relation when the parts are assembled.
fastening devices passing therethrough and through the sides and ends.
The upper ends of the legs are provided with angular flanges l tenings passing through the holes 13, and the or position Having described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a device of the class described, a body comprising sides, ends and a drum, the edges of the drum overlapping the sides and ends moldings at the edges of the drum and having flanges extending over the edges and intermediate the drum and sides and ends, legs having angular faces provided Withseats to 10 receive the ends of the moldings, and fastenings securing the legs to the body.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
