This invention relates to devices such as ladies handbags andhas particular reference to handbag and cover combinations.

One object of the invention is the provision of' a device having improved means for releasably mounting a cover on a handbag, such that the latter can be used in a particularly attractive manner without the cover as well as with the cover. Another object of the invention is to provide improved means for the combined purpose of securing a bag to a frame and for removably supporting a cover, whereby clamping and gluing operations are avoided, andv'arious locking arran'gements may be dispensed with.

Another object of the invention is] to furnish a device of the type mentioned having few and simple parts and which is inexpensive to manufacture and assemble, compact and neat in appearance, convenient in operation, and durable and reliable in use.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the specification proceeds.

With the aforesaid objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described in their preferred embodiments, pointed out in the subjoined claims, and illustrated in the annexed drawing, wherein like parts are designated by' the same reference characters throughout the several Views.

The advantages of the invention as here outlined are best realized when all of its features and instrumentalities are combined in one and the same structure, but, useful devices may be produced embodying less than the whole.

It will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, that the same may be incorporated in several different constructions. The accompanying drawing, therefore, is submitted merely as showing the preferred exemplification of the invention.

Referring in detail to the drawing, 10 denotes a device embodying the invention. The same may include abag ll secured to a frame 12 5 which may be releasably closed by a lock 13. It will be under- 10 stood that the parts H to M may be conventional, and that those herein illustrated are intended to more clearly exemplify the invention.

The frame l2 may consist of handle bars l5 of suitably inverted U-shaped form, pivotally' in- 5 terconnected at their lower ends as at It. Each frame member l5 may have a cross bar I! rigidly connected thereto at its ends as at 18. The cross bars l1 may constitute the framing or assembling I bars for the bag II as hereinafter described. 20 The lock l3 may consist of a pair of blocks I 9, 20, offset and secured to the individual handle bars so as to aline with each other when the handbag is closed. One of these blocks l9 may have an end recess 2! and the other may have a 25 spring pressed end pin 22 adapted to engage in the recess 2| to lock the frame.

The frame members I! may consist of metal or composition material, and may be channeled by having a groove or slot 23 formed or cut 30 therein. According to the prior practise, the side walls 24 of the bag I I were inserted at their upper edges into the grooves or channels; if the members I! were metal they were clamped on the side walls, if the members I! were of composition material, the side walls were glued thereinto. Either practise involved considerable labor, and where the members I 1 were of composition or other nonbendable material, considerable care was also required to prevent mutilation of the 40 handbag by the glue.

According to the present invention, I may utilize headed pins 25, each having a head 26 and a stem 21 and serving the combined purpose of securing the bag walls 24 in the frame 5 members and releasably supporting the cover I4. Thus the frame members I! may each have spaced holes 28 lateral to the channels 23 and in communication therewith for receiving the stems 21 of the pins 25. In these holes the pin 50 stems may be press fitted or glued, with their inner ends tightly abutting or biting into the fabric of the walls 24 to strongly secure the latter. If desired, the Walls 24 may have their free edges beaded a at 9 t re t p t p ns 5 1 The length of the stems 21 may be such that the heads 26 are spaced from the sides of the frame members I1 so that the heads 26 may serve as buttons engageable in the corresponding buttonholes 30 of the cover l4.

The pins 25 may also be regarded as consisting of a relatively soft material so that the stems 2! may be deformable or expandable under pressure to powerfully lock in the holes 28.

In use, the cover l4 may be secured on the fvisualizedby consideringthe frames l2 and the pins 25 as made of white celluloid, and thus producing a blended effect. The use of a series of the pins 25 enhances the dec'orativeeffect and serves to more smoothly support both the foundation bag H and the cover l4.

By reason of the button elements 26 being mounted on a rigid frame, the buttoning and unbuttoning is rendered more convenient, and the cover retained taut along the sides and at the bottom of the bag H.

. I claim:

1. A device including a bag, channeled frame members therefor, receiving upper edge portions of the bag, the frame members having perforations ina lateral flange of each, headed pins extended through and secured in the perforations with the endsof the pins securingly engaging the upper edge portions of the bag, the

heads of the pins lying in external spaced relation to said flanges, and a cover for the bag having holes for removable engagement with said heads.

2. A device including a bag, channeled frame members therefor receiving upper edge portions of the bag, the frame members having perforations in a lateral flange of each, headed pins extended through and secured in the perforations with the 'ends of the pins securingly engaging the upper edge portions of the bag, .the heads of the pins lying in external spaced relation to said flanges, said heads being adapted for engagement with the buttonholes of a removable cover.

3. A device including a channel frame member, a bag-havinga wall having a portion disposed in the channel of the frame member, the latter having a flange having a perforation communicating with the channel, a pin extending through and secured in said perforation, said pin having an end portion in the channel pressing the bag portion thereinv against the opposite flange of the frame member, said pin having an external anchor member for supporting an article.

4. A device including a channel frame member, a bag having a wall having a portion disposed in the channel of the frame member, the latter having a flange having a perforation communicating with the channel, a pin extending through and secured in said perforation, said pin having an end portion in the channel pressing the bag portion therein against the opposite flange of the frame member, said pin having an external anchor member'for supporting an article, and another member depending along a side of the bag and having a portion engageable with the anchor member whereby the depending member is supported.
