A primary object of the invention is to provide an adjustable band for a ladysfwristwatch,V a bracelet or, thelike, that has` incorporated therein simplied and improved features of construction.HA c. Y l Y s Another object of. the invention is to providefa band of the character indicated with adjustable means, whereby the effective length of the band maybe readily anduquickly varied` by the user without the use of tools.
A The inventionhas for afurther object the provision of an adjustableband fora ladys wristwatch or the like that is attractive in design, that is simplewand sturdy in construction thatHis reasonable in manufacturing` cost, and that is 4L claims. rol.' 24g- 206) adapted to perform its intendedfunations in an efficient and dependable manner.
To the end that'the foregomgobjlects maybe attained, an adjustable band constructed in accordance with this invention preferably comprisesa pair ,of units,` namely, a,v first unitand a second unit. Theiirst unit includes a plurality of links connected in series with thelaid of suitable coupling elements. Each link has abottom opening. The second unit comprisesa hollow member closed at oneend and open at "itsother end'. A` partition is disposed across the interior of the hollow member and-divides the sameinto a link-receiving compartment anda latch-receiving compartment. The hollow member has a bottom aperture that communicates with both compartments. A latch plate is pivotally connected to one end of the hollow member, preferably the open end, and constitutes at least a portion of the bottom wall of the hollow member. This plate carries a latch that is adapted to project into the latch-receiving compartment when the plate is in closed position. The latch has a hook element at its free end that engages a recess formed in the partition, whereby to maintain the plate in closed position. A pin is carried by and projects upwardly from the plate and is adapted to register with the opening in the bottom of a link upon insertion of an end of the rst unit into the hollow member through the open end thereof.
The link-receiving compartment is of sufficient length to accommodate two or more of the links of the first unit. The parts are so arranged that the pin carried by the plate may register with the opening in either the end link or the next adjacent link, depending upon the extent to which the first unit is inserted in the hollow member. The plate has an extension or tab at its end, remote from its pivotal connection with the hollow member, to facilitate disengagement of thelatch from therhollow'member Vand thereby permit swinging the plate into Lopen position.
The enumerated objects, together with other objects and the advantages of this invention will be'readily` apparent'to persons skilled in the art upon reference to the detailed descriptionr that follows and the annexed drawing which respectively describe and illustrate a^band construction for a ladys wristwatch'embodying the invention, Inthedrawngz`-"` 7W Figure l is a top plan viewf of aportion-of a preferred and recommended watch band constructed `in accordance with the invention;
Figure 2 is' a view in'enlargement taken along line 2--2 of-Figure 1;` Y Figure 3 vis a bottom plan view of Figure 2; Figure 4 is a viewrtakenalong line 4-4 of Figure2; s
.Figure 5 is a viewtakenalong line 5--5 of Iiigure2; and V1 .iFigure 6 correspondstoa portion of Figure 2, partsfbeingfomitted and otherparts being shown in another relative position.. o v ,l Referring now to the. drawing, I have illustrated therein a'band `for allady's wristwatch or thelike comprisinga pair of flexible rst units I0.
a pair of hollow second units lleach of which is, removably connected to a ,corresponding first unit I0and,a,clasp l2 that connects ,units4v ll together-L This clasp I nay-be of any known-.formof construction. As is best shown in Figures 2 and 3, each flexible unit l0 includes a plurality of links |13 that are connected in series by couplers I4. Each link I3 may carry a gem, such as a out diamond l5, and is open at the bottom as indicated at I6.
Each second unit Il preferably comprises a hollow member I1 having a top wall I8, that also carries decorative gems l5, and a pair of spaced side walls 2li that have inwardly extending lateral flanges 2l which are spaced apart to define an opening 22. The hollow member is additionally provided with an end wall 23 that is connected to clasp l2. The other end of hollow member l1 is open, as indicated at 24. A transverse partition 25 divides the interior of hollow member I1 into a link-receiving compartment 26 and a latchreceiving compartment 21, both of which compartments communicate with opening 22. Linkreceiving compartment 26 is of sufficient size to accommodate a plurality of links I3 and in the
