CHILD S GARMENT 1956 2- Sheets-Sheet 2 Filed June 10 uwrutor: rPhey; Atty Patented Jan. 25, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The object of my invention is to provide a novel seat construction for boys, girls and children's sleeping garments, boys, girls and childrens union suits and waist suits, and to provide on such garments a flap which fastens on the front of the garments and are adjustably buttoned to allow the garments to grow longer as the child grows taller. I attain these and other objects of my invention by the garments illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front plan view of the garment, a portion being broken away to show a detail of a concealed part of the garment;
Fig. 2 is a front plan View of a portion of the garment;
Fig. 3 is a diagrammatic horizontal section on line 33 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a rear plan view of the garment;
Fig. 5 is a diagrammatic vertical section on line 55 of Fig. 4; and
Fig. 6 is a side elevation of one of the feet.
Like numerals designate like parts in each of the several views.
Referring to the accompanying drawings; the body I of the garment is provided with the facing 2 having buttonholes 3. The overlapped edge portion of the garment is provided with a suitable binding or edging 4. This portion of the garment also carries the buttons 5 which engage in the buttonholes 3. The back of the garment is designated 6, the arms I and 8 designate the stitching fastening the sleeve to the body, and 9 a line of stitching finishing the sleeve edge or cuff. The garment has legs ID with feet H and soles l2 which are stitched to the feet I l by the line of stitching l3.
The rear of the garment is provided with a back flap body l4 having its upper edge and its side edges stitched to the back 6 of the garment by the line of stitching l5 which is disposed as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings. At the point I 3a the member I is free from the body of the garment and terminates in a tapered extension depending freely toward the crotch and stitched at Hi to the convex base of the triangular flap H. The apical portion I8 of flap I! to which the tapered extension. is stitched at 16w extends around the crotch of the garment up the front of the garment, as shown in one of the drawings. The convexly curved line of stitching |6a at the base of the triangular extension flap gives the desired extra fullness to the back flap of the body, as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings. Flap l8 has a plurality of buttonholes 20 by which it may be adjustably buttoned at the front of the garment. On the underside of the flap tongue I8 I provide a tape or binding I9 sewed on to the inner surface of the tongue and of suflicient length to extend just beyond each of the buttonholes 26 in the tongue. Each of the legs of the garment is formed of a single strip of material brought together and sewed by the line of stitching 2| which extends from the sole to and across the crotch of the garment. Adjacent the waist of the garment under the upper portion of the back flap body I 4 is a cut-out portion 23, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 4. The back flap body l4 and also the seat of the garment adjacent the cut-out portion 23 is provided with extra fullness so as to bulge out and leave a larger opening than is apparent from the dotted lines of this opening shown in the drawings. It should also be noted that the seat of the garment is provided with such a fullness as to cause it to go outwardly, as shown diagrammatically in Fig. 5. The flap I1 and tongue l8 are so constructed that the tongue measurement from shoulder to crotch may be lengthened about two and one half inches. This will allow the garment to be worn longer as the child grows in length.
What I claim is:- A garment of the type described having a cut out portion adjacent the waist in the rear of the garment, and a back flap body having its upper edge secured to the garment above said opening, said back flap body having its side edges secured to the side portions of the body of the garment, and having a tapered extension depending freely toward the crotch, a triangular flap having a convex base, the said convex base being stitched to the bottom edge of the aforesaid tapered extension so as to provide considerable extra fullness in the lower portion of the back flap body, said triangular flap extending around the crotch of the garment and having its apex adjustably fastened to the front of the garment, whereby the length of the body of the garment. may be adjusted as the wearer increases in height.
