Patented Jan. 18, 1938 UNITED ST PATEN My invention relatesto hairnets, more particularly to hair nets adapted to be worn when one is sleeping: or merely reclining, and the ob'- jects of my invention are:

First, to provide a hair net of this class which may besecured in position on the 'head and will not readilybe dislodged or removed accidentally;

Second, to provide a hair net of this class which covers the entire head of hair when the hair is arranged in its normal manner so that all portions of the :head of hair are retained in their proper'positionias 'long'as the hair net is worn;

Third, to provide a hair net of this class which though covering the entire head of hair permits'` circulation of airaround and through the hair so that the hair may readily dry, thus providing a hair .net of this class which is particularly adapted for use in setting thehair after finger waves'or other method of training the hair have been'used; c

Fourth; to provide a hair net of this class which is adapted to stretch slightly at various portions and thus conform substantially to the irregularities of the hair on'the head;

Fifth, to provide a 'hair net` of this classwhich is particularly simple and economical` of construction" and manufacture there being but few parts andthese parts being easily formed; e

Sixth, to provide a novel means of securing the hair neton the head a'ndreinforcing the 'net at the 'same time; and

Seventh,1'to 'provide a hair net of this class whichzis novel of Construction, durable, efficient in its action,` and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.

With these and. other' objects in View as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction combination and arrangement of parts andportions as will be hereinaiter described in detail and particular.-

Figure 1 is a front perspective View of my hair net as it appears when worn; Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view of my hair net when worn; Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of my hair net as it appears when worn; Fig. 4 is a rear perspective view of my hair net when ready to be positioned on the head of the wearer and showing the tape 6 fragmentarily and showing the fold as used in forming the side members 2 and 3; Fig. 5 is a reduced developed view of the top section I; Fig. 6 is a reduced developed view of one of the side members; Fig. 7 a reduced developed view of one of the side members 2 or 3 in folded form showing the contraction of the same at the backwhen formed ready for use in the net; Fig. 8 is a diarammatic view showing the fold of the material in the side members 2 and 3 along the line 8-8 at its central portion than at its ends'and its front end being considerably wider than its rear end, the rear end practically coming to a point, as shown best in Fig. 5 of the drawings, and providing long curved side edges lct` and lb', front edge Ic and rear edge id. In forming the side sections' 2 and 3 the straight portion 20 is folded upon itself, as shown in Figs. 4 and '7 of the drawings,

thus narrowing the rear portions of the sections` 2 and' 3 and at the same time reinforcing said" sections at the rear portion; These sections l, 2

and 3 are formed of netting or suitable ganze material` which permits complete access of air to the hair, the hair net being 'practically foraminous throughout.

The curved portions la and lb of the section l are joined to the curved portions Zb` of the sections 2 and 3 by means of the seams i, and the back edge including the folds is provided with a reinforcing seam 5, as shown best in Figs. 2 and 4' of the drawings.

Then Secured over the portion -lc of the section i and the portions za` of the sections Zand 3 is a light binding tape member B which is folded over the edges of these members and sewed thereto forming a reinforcement along the edge, and the folded ends of this binding tape 6 are extended some distance past the ends of the seam 5 and form the strings which are crossed at the back and drawn tight so as to draw the seam 5 across itself, as shown best in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings, and the two ends are tied together over the front portion by means of a knot Sa, shown best in Fig. 1 of the drawings.

Thus it will be noted that the back portion is folded in overlapped relation at the back when in position on the head as well as the folds in the sections 2 and 3 for narrowing the side sections at the back; thus providing a form fitting net for the head adapted for various sizes and shaped heads and reinforced and secured in position so that it is substantially immovable on the head by means of the reinforcing tape 6 with extended string portions.

It is obvious that once the hair net is positioned and the ends of the string secured by means of a knot Ea over the front portion of the head back of the front portion of the net, that it is practically impossible for the hair net to shift so as to dislodge the arrangement of the hair or to Work ofi of the head; thus the hair net is particularly adapted for use when one is lying down Whereby one may retain the hair in desired prepared arrangement when lying down.

Though I have shown and described a particular Construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to include in the scope of my invention the Construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the ppended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: u

1. In a hair net, a plurality of section members formed of foraminous cloth of sufiicient body to permit stitching, said section members sewed together along portions of their margins to form a substantially semi-spherical head covering, one side of said structure being open upwardly some distance from the lower margin to form the middle back side of said net, and the sides of said open portion being adapted to fold into overlapped relation at the back, and some of said sections being formed in folded secured reinforcing relation from said opening forwardly to provide an adjustable head fitting foraminous structure.

2. In a hair net, a plurality of section members formed of foraminous cloth of sufficient body to permit stitching, said section members sewed together along portions of their margins to form a substantially semi-spherical head covering, one side of said structure being open upwardly some distance from the lower margin to form the middle back side of said net, and the sides of said open portion being adapted to fold into overlapped relation at the back, some of said sections being formed in folded secured reinforcing relation from said opening forwardly to provide an adjustable head fitting foraminous structure, and

In a hair net, a plurality of section members formed of foraminous cloth of sufiicient body to permit stitching and shaped substantially in semispherical form, said section members being stitched along portions of their margins and a portion of said section members provided with folded relatively secured reinforcing portions at one side, said folded reinforcing sections terminating in an open portion extending into the main portion providing reinforced overlapped portions and forming the central rear portion of the neck.

4. In a hair net, a plurality of section members formed of foraminous cloth of suicient body to permit stitching and shaped substantially in semispherical form, said section members being stitched along portions of their margins and a portion of said section members provided with folded relatively secured reinforcing portions at one side, said folded reinforcing sections terminating in an open portion extending into the main portion providing reinforced overlapped portions and forming the central rear portion of the neck, and long slender extended tie strings secured to the margin of said structure and in engagement with said folded reinforced portion.

5. In a hair net, a plurality of section members, formed of foraminous cloth of suflicient body to permit stitching, said section members sewed together along portions of their margins, the normally back side of said structure at the middle being open from its lower side upwardly some distance adapted to fold into overlapped relation adapted to form a head fitting foraminous structure.

6. In a hair net, a plurality of section members 4 formed of foraminous cloth of sufiicient body'to permit stitching, said section members sewed together along portions of their margins so as to form a substantially semi-spherical foraminous structure, but provided with an extended open portion in one side forming the back side of the net, and a portion of the edge of the structure at the opening being reinforced with folded irregular portions of similar foraminous cloth.

In a hair net, a plurality of section members formed of foraminous cloth of sufiicient body to permit stitching, said section members sewed together along portions of their margins so as to form a substantially semi-spherical foraminous structure but provided with an extended open p portion in one side forming the back side of the net, a portion of the edge of the structure at the.
