Description
'UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIGE.
WILLIAM O. PEOKHAM AND DAVID F. MOKITRIOK, OF TROY, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN DEVICES FOR PULLING OFF BOOTS AND SHOES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 209,919, dated November 12, 1878 application filed September 9, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WM. C. PECKHAM and DAVID F. MCKITRIGK, of Troy, in the county of Miami and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Removing Boots and Shoes; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof7 reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a part of the shoe-bottom, and Fig. 2 a view of the hook.
The nature of our invention consists in providing the sole of a boot or shoe with an eye or staple, into whichv is to be inserted a hook when the boot is to be removed from the foot, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we will now describe its construction and mode of operation.
A represents a portion of a boot or shoe, in the sole of which, at a point near the heel, is driven and properly secured the staple b. This staple may be driven flush with the sole, and a groove cut crosswise to admit of the hoop being inserted when necessary to remove the boot or shoe.
In lieu of the staple b, we may use an eye, e, one end of which is driven into the heel, while the opposite end is sunk into the sole and secured by means of a screw or rivet.
We intend this modification more especially for rubber boots.
B, Fig. 2, represents a double hook, which isused to withdraw the boot or shoe from the feet by hooking one end into the eye or staple and the other in a stationary staple in the floor or other suitable place, when the boot may be easily removed.
In order that our invention may be useful and convenient to those traveling, we make the hook with a handle, so that it may be used with the hand, thus dispensing with the stationary staple in the iioor.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A boot or shoe provided with a staple or an eye. substantially as shown and described, andfr adapted to be used with a hook for the prpose of drawing off the boot or shoe from the foot, as set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we aflix our signatures in presence of two Witnesses.
WILLIAM o. BECKHAM. DAvID n. MQKITRIGK.
Witnesses CALVIN D. WRIGHT, JAMES KNIGHT.
