Description
S. HEIL'BRONER. j Cigar-Case.
No. 209,478. Patented Oct. 29,1878.
"ml-trans. FMOTOUTHOGRAFHER. WASHINGTON. KL Lv UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
' SAMUEL HEILB'RONER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN ClGAR -CAS ES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 209,478, dated October 29, 1878; application filed June 21, 1878.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL HEILBRONER, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar Cases or Cabinets or Desks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention is an improvement in cases and boxes for cigars. It consists of an upright case divided into compartments to receive drawers having lids, which form boxes to contain cigars, as hereinafter to be mentioned, and provided with an apron, which,-when let down to open the case, forms a desk for writing or other use. 1
In the manufacture of cigar-boxes for the trade heretofore, they have been ,made in the cheapest manner possible consistent with ordinary neatness of exterior, for the reason that after using them once the internal-revenue laws prevent their future use as boxes for cigars, and, being of a shape and size which fit them for no other special use, they are thrown aside as worthless.
My boxes are of the drawer shape, and provided with knobs or known equivalents, by which they can be easily withdrawn. They are not unlike ordinary drawers of bureaus, excepting that the side uprights are grooved to receive the covers, which are of thin material, (wood preferred,) and slide in from the rear toward the front.
These drawer cigar-boxes are grouped in the case, having horizontal partitions to form openings or spaces to receive said boxes. The
case, like the drawers, is rectangular in form, and, besides the spaces to receive the drawers, it has vertical partitions in its upper part to they become highly valuable, in combination with the apron described, as desks for domestic or office use.
In my drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my case with the apron down, disclosing the faces of the drawer cigar boxes within. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the case.
Similar reference-letters indicate like parts in all the figures.
Referring to drawings, A is the case inclosing my cigar-boxes B, which boxes are to be made of a size to hold two hundred ordinary cigars. The case is ordinarily to contain five drawers, which will hold one thousand cigars.
O are the drawers, which are made neatly to slide in the openings provided to receive them. U are thin sheets of wood to be used as covers, and over which the internal-revenue stamps are placed.
F F F are pigeon-holes formed by partition F in the'upper part of the case.
Having thus described myinvention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The drawer-shaped boxes 0, with the lid 0 for the required revenue-stamps, in combina tion with the case provided to receive them.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL HEILBRONER.
Witnesses W. S. LEV'ENS, SIMoN LEVY.
