PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a wrap around house dress.

The invention has for an object the construction of a house dress which is made from one piece of material which, essentially, has a one piece body and skirt portion open from one shoulder to the bottom, and the material to the sides of said opening being adapted to overlap, and a novel provision for holding said side material portions closed.

More specifically, the invention contemplates the provision of fastening elements upon the open shoulder portion to hold the side material portions closed in this vicinity.

Still further the invention proposes the provision of a strap attached at one end at the waist portion to the edge of the top of said overlapping portions and adapted to be extended to the back, and another strap attached at one end to the waist portion to the edge of the bottom of said overlapping portions and adapted to be extended to the back and out through openings in the side of the dress so as to be adapted to be tied to the other of said straps.

A further object of the invention is to arrange the edge of the top of said overlapping portions to be converging, and if desired, slightly curved to the waist portion at the area at which said strap is attached.

A further object of the invention is to provide several loops along the edge of the top of said overlapping portions through which the adjacent strap may be laced, and to provide several openings in the back of the dress through which the other of the straps may be laced, so that it is possible to adjust the position of the straps relative to the waist of a wearer of the dress.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

The house dress, according to this invention, comprises a one piece body and skirt portion In which is open from one shoulder H to the bottom of the dress and arranged so that the material Ill and I0 to the sides of said openings 5 overlap. A means is provided for closing said opening at the shoulder and is shown to comprise several buttons l2 attached upon the shoulder portion of the garment and engageable through complementary button holes 13 in the edge portion Ili A strap [4 is attached at one end at the waist portion of the dress to the edge of the top ID of said overlapping portions and is adapted to be extended around to the back of the dress. Another strap i5 is attached at one end at the waist portion to the edge of the bottom l of said overlapping portions and is adapted to be extended to the back and out through an opening [6 in the side of the dress. The straps l4 and I5 may be tied together at the back into a bow II.

The edge of the portion l0 converges to a point ll'i at the waist to which the end of the strap I4 is secured. This converging is obtained by forming the edge III with a portion 2ll above the point l0 either straight or slightly curved, and forming the edge with another portion M also either straight or slightly curved, below the point [0 Several loops l8 are attached along the portion 20 and the strap I4 is adapted to be laced upwards through one of these loops. Thus the height of the strap is changed. In addition to the opening Hi, there are other openings I6 and l6 in the side of the dress at several elevations through which the strap 15 may be laced. It is thus possible to have both of the straps at the same elevation. The dot and dash lines I4 and M in Fig. 5 illustrate the strap l4 laced through the loops IS.

A feature of the house dress is that it may be readily slipped on and taken off at a moments notice, and avoids the annoyance of long dressing when changing clothes.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims. 50

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. In a house dress or similar article, material having adjacent side sections, a strap attached r atone end to one of said side sections, a second strap attached at one end to the other of said a side sections, and loops secured on one of saidrsections in a vertical line thereof, and said other section being formed with apertures horizontally aligned with said loops, whereby said strap may be passed through one of said loops and said second strap may be passed through a corresponding aperture to align said second strap with said strap. V

2., In a house dress or similar article, material having adjacent side sections, a strap attached at one end to one of said side sections, a second second strap may be passed through a corre-' sponding aperture to align said second strap with said strap, said loops comprising, strips of material having their ends attached to the .edgesof 10 said section.
