IMPROVEMENT IN BLACKlNG-BRUSHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 207,953, dated September 10, 1878 application filed May 6, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RoLLIN G. DOANE, of the city of Rochester, county of Monroe, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Blacking-Brushes, of which the following is a specification:
The object is to secure a simple and convenient arrangement of the blacking' and brushes.
Upon the top of an ordinary blacking-brush, in front of the handle, as shown in Figure 1 of accompanying drawings, is a frame, A, as a receptacle for an ordinary box of blacking, which is covered, when not in use, by the cover B, swinging on the pivot 0.
Upon the topof the cover, from the handle to the pivot, is a strip, 1), with sloping sides, as shown in Fig. 2, on which the blacking-tip E slides on or off the end toward the handle, the groove in the tip fitting the strip.
On the side of the handle, near the frame,
and fastened to the handle, is a metallic catch, F, which holds together the tip, cover, and frame, or the cover and frame only, as desired.
In use the catch is raised, freeing the cover and tip for access to the blacking, which is applied bythe tip, when the cover is replaced, the catch lowered, and the polishing-brush used, all Without soiling the hands.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The construction and combination of a frame, A, for holding a box of blacking, covered by a swinging cover, with strip D, fitting groove in tip E, all held in place by catch 'F, substantially as described.
