MPROVEMENT m SIGNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 207,549, dated August 27, 187 8; application filed May15, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELGANAH POWELL, of New London, in the county of Howard, and in the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attaching Signs to 7 Posts; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a sign-post, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a front elevation of the sign-post.
1A represents a tapering post of any suitable dimensions, to be inserted in the ground, and provided at its lower end with arms I3 B, to hold it firmly-in the ground. At a suitable distance from the top the post is turned down, so as to form a shoulder, a, as shown.
0 U represent two sigirboards, upon which are to be painted or otherwise atlixed the distances tothcnearcsttowns. Thesesign-boards' orfingenboardsare connected together at their inner ends by curved metallic bands D, forming a clamp around. the post, which clamp ingly-shaped groove inthe postA at a suitable distance below the shoulder a, said boa rd being thus held to the post by a dovetail.
Having thus fully described my invention,
- what I claim as new, and desireto secure by m Letters Patent, is-- The combination of the tapering post A, having bottom arms B and circumferential shoulder a a suitable distance below the. upper end, the finger-boards G O, with suspended sign-boards F F, clamps D, chains (7, hooks e, and dovetailed board G, all as and for the purposes herein set forth.
