described and illustrated herein as` adapted to that type of receptacle known as friction top cans, which comprise essentially a top or cover designedl to be pressed into the upper end of the can, the par hand during use of the can.

What I claim is:
1. The combination with a friction top can of an opener therefor adapted to pry the cover from the can, the can being formed with a groove in its top and the cover being formed with a similar groove, and the opener being provided with a hook-shaped end adapted to engage the periphery of the cover and the top of the can body for detachably connecting the opener to the can, the hook-shaped end having resilient means assisting in such connection.
2. The combination with a friction top can of an opener therefor adapted to pry the cover from the can, the can being formed with a groove in its top and the cover being formed with a similar groove, and the being provided with a hook-shaped end adapted to engage the periphery of the cover and the top of the can body for detachably connecting the opener to the can, the said hook-shaped end having a spring portion engaging one of said parts and assisting in such connection.
3. The combination with a friction top receptacle of a lever adapted to pry the cover therefrom, and means for releasably attaching the 1e- Ver to the receptacle, said means comprising a bent portion of. the lever adapted to engage within it the periphery of the cover and the body of the receptacle.
