Patented Feb. 9, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The present invention relates to an advertising cap remover for bottles, cans and the like and has for its prime object to provide an opener simulating the container with which it o is to be associated for advertising purposes and capable of containing suitable advertising wording and the like.
Another important object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its cone struction and in its cost of manufacture, yet thoroughly efficient and reliable in use, convenient and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:-
Figure 1 is a fragmentary enlarged side elevation of a bottle with the cap thereon showing my opener in place for removing the cap.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view of the cap.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the opener.
Figure 4 is another side elevation thereof taken at right angles to that shown in Figure 3.
Figure 5 is another side elevation taken op- 30 posite to that shown in Figure 3.
Figure 6 is an enlarged detail section taken substantially on the line 6-6 of Figure 5.
Figure 7 is a horizontal sectional view taken substantially on the line 'l-l of Figure 5.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that this opener simulates one-half of a container such as an ordinary bottle and includes a semi-cylindrical or substantially semicylindrical body 5 merging intoi a semi-cylindrical neck portion 6 having a simulation of a semi-cap formed thereon. At the other end of the body 5 there is a bottom disk 8 a portion of which, out of the confines of the body 5, is struck upwardly as at 9 to form a lip which in- 45 clines upwardly and inwardly toward the body 5 and leaves a slit ID. This lip is adapted to be engaged With the cap of a bottle, can or any other kind of a container using a cap as a closure as is clearly illustrated in Figure 1 and when the end of the body opposed to the disk 8 is swung downwardly obviously the cap will be pried off the container.
This device is capable of being formed in different shapes within the scope of the appended 6 claims without departing from the spirit of my invention and allowing the device to be shaped and marked so as to provide a very inexpensive advertising novelty having the requisite utility.
It is thought that the construction, operation 10 utility and advantages of this invention will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for 15 the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details :0 of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to with out departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What is claimed is:
1. A cap removing device of the class described comprising a substantially semi-cylindrical body having a disk across one end thereof and concentric with the cylindrical feature of the body and having a portion struck therefrom to incline upwardly and inwardly toward the body out of the confines of the body and leaving a slit in the disk said disk forming a base for supporting the body in an upright position when not in use.
2. A cap removing device of the class described comprising a substantially semi-cylindrical body having a disk across one end thereof and concentric with the cylindrical feature of the body and having a portion struck therefrom to incline upwardly and inwardly toward the body out of the confines of the body and leaving a slit in the disk, the body at the upper end merging into a semi-cylindrical neck extension forming a handle said disk forming a base for supporting the body in an upright position when not in use.
JOHN N. MINDEN.
