FACE 'LIFTING DEVICE Filed May 17, 1935 .ZNVENTUR QMW. M.-
Patented Jan. 26 1 937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 4 Claims.
This invention, a face lifting device, is designed to eradicate temporarily, and more or less permanently, sagging muscles of the face.
As the years advance, the face muscles, especially those along the jaws, at the sides of the mouth and nose and about the eyes, relax and sag, forming hard lines or heavy wrinkles, intensifying the appearance of age in the face.
By gentle and continuous application of ten- 10 sion to the skin in the proper directions or at the proper angles, these sagging muscles are supported, and the wrinkles eradicated while such tension is maintained, and it is known that by constant application of this tension, that the 15 lines are more or less permanently disposed of.
It is known that face lifting devices have been used, however, the majority of such devices are either clumsy, bulky or inefficient, or are expensive to construct, or the pads are incon- 30 venient to renew. Also, no provision is made for adjustment of the pads to act in more than one direction, and in the most desirable directions.
This invention provides pads or holding members which are adjustable as to direction of ten- 35 sion in at least two directions and are quickly and conveniently replaced. It also provides readily replaceable head bands, and includes a special terminal clip or connector for attaching the pads to the head band, and which is unso usually small, light, and very thin, being only about one quarter inch square and less than one thirty-second of an inch thick, whereby a face lifting device is provided which is extremely small, light in weight, compact and thin, and
35 extremely effective and readily completely concealed by the hair of the wearer.
The main object of the invention is to provide a non-bulky, light-weight, thin harness and. coupling for a face lifting device.
40 Another object of the invention is to provide a device as outlined with pad couplings which permit easy and quick renewal of pads and head band, as occasion may require.
A further object of the invention is to pro- 45 vide grip pads of a new type of construction and form, which will react on the facial musclesto the greatest advantage.
A still further object of the invention is to provide grip pads which are formed from a 50 single strip of adhesive tape to form two angularly related legs.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the following description is read on the drawing forming a part 55 of this specification, and in which similar reference characters are used to designate similar parts throughout the several views, of which:
Fig. 1 is a profile view of a face with the invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of a grip pad before forming to shape.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the grip pad as formed.
Fig. 4 is a rear view of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a transverse section through the tape.
Fig. 6 is a front elevation of the pad coupling 0r clip.
Fig. 7 is a rear elevation of Fig. 6.
Fig. 8 is a section on line 88 of Fig. '7, showing the grip pad fragmentarily. The invention consists of a pair of grip pads,
a pair of pad couplings, and a head band, the couplings being a permanent part of the device, while the head band and pads are replaceable at will.
The pads may be formed to any desired shape, the preferred shape being that, in which two diverging legs react on the muscles in a plurality of different directions, two legs being usually sufficient.
The preferred form is that in which a strip I0 of adhesive tape is bluntly pointed at both ends as shown at H and I2 and folded in angular relation relative to a given edge point [3, as along lines l4 and I5 to form the two legs I6 and I'L'the first fold being on line H as indicated, a suitable aperture l8 being formed near the apex IS on line l5 for reception of the pin IQ of the coupling, under which conditions, the pin lies between the folds of the tape and therefore does not come in contact with the skin of the wearer.
The adhesive tape is provided with a coating of suitable adhesive 20 as is well known in the art, the composition of the adhesive substance 40 being considered as immaterial in connection with this disclosure.
The clasp or coupling consists of a body member 2!, having at its upper end, a ribbon or elastic-receiving slot 22, and at its lower end, a ribbon or elastic-receiving slot 23, which is provided with suitable teeth 24, the sides of the body member being flanged under forming the flanges 25 and 26. The pin I9 is formed to U-shape, and has one leg 21 fixedly secured between the body 2| and flange 26, the other flange 25 being left with proper clearance to freely receive the resilient pin leg 28 and its point 29.
The band 30 is made of tape, ribbon, or elastic, and is threaded through slot 22, passed over the front face of the body 2| and down through slot 23, after which a pull on the band causes the teeth 24 to engage the band and secure it against tension.
Any desired method of adjustment of the band may be used, such as pinning or the use of clasps, or the band may be cut to the desired length.
As will be noted, the device is completely concealed by the hair 3|, the band 30 being placed under the hair and down on the scalp 32, the pads being placed substantially in the position shown, just forward of the ear.
The leg [6 creates tension on the skin in a. direction to draw and eradicate wrinkles about the eyes and nose, as indicated at 33 and 34, and leg I! acts to eradicate Wrinkles and lift sagging muscles about the jaw and mouth, as indicated at 35 and 36.
Since the device is not bulky in any part and is completely concealed by the hair, its presence cannot be detected, and replacement of used or soiled parts is extremely simple and convenient, since, to change pads, it is only necessary to release the pin leg 28, remove the pad, insert the pin point 29 through hole l8 in a new pad and close the pin. The angularity between the legs l6 and I! is self-adjusting, since the mere pull of the parts will vary the angle, and this variation may be made to suit the specific conditions or location of wrinkles. These variations may be made by bending the blank at the proper angles, or the pads may be formed to a specific angle and pulled to the suitable angle at the time of application, since the adhesive substance will permit distortion.
It will be understood that variations in construction and arrangement of parts, which variations are consistent with the appended claims, may be resorted to, without detracting from the spirit or scope of the invention, or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
I claim:
1. In combination with a face lifting device, a gripping pad consisting of two angularly related legs formed from a single length of adhesive tape intermediately double folded in angular relation along two bend lines having a common apex at one side edge of the tape, and a pin-receiving aperture formed on one of said bend lines to receive a clasp pin between the folds.
2. In combination with a face lifting device, a gripping pad consisting of two angularly-related legs formed from a single strip of adhesive tape intermediately angularly folded with one leg refolded over the angular fold to bring the adhesive surface on the same side of both legs, and a clasp pin passing through the tape on one fold line and lying between the folds to maintain said clasp pin out of contact with the skin of the wearer.
3. A self-adjusting face lifting pad consisting of a length of adhesive tape, folded and refolded on bias lines having a common apex at one side edge of said tape and intermediate the length thereof, to bring the adhesive side of both ends of said tape on the same side of said pad, said folds forming a guard and receiver for a clasp pin.
4. An article of manufacture consisting of a strip of adhesive tape having two angularly related bend lines formed thereon and converging to a common apex at one side edge of said tape as a guide for folding thereof, and a pin-receiving aperture formed through said tape on one bend line at a point intermediate the width of said tape.
