SEPABABLE BUCKLE.

This invention relates to a separable buckle or fastener for bracelet straps of the type more particularly alapted foruse in securing a wrist watch in position on the arm of the wearer; am'l'has iior its object to provide a separable buckle having one member adjustably secured to one of the strap parts and the other member attached to the other strap part with means :for resame 1s in. use; and the following is a dcleasably securing the members of the buckle together.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a gripper for clamping one of the members of the separable buckle in any desired position along one of the strap parts with the other member of the separable lHiOlilO serving as a tip for the other strap part with means for releasably securing it i to the adjustable member.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel teatures o [3 construction, as wlll be more fully described, and particularly pointed. out in the appended claims.

In the use of wrist watch straps it is desirable to provide means operable by the one available hand of the wearer whereby the eil'eetive length of the strap may be extended to permit the strap and the watch attached thereto to be removed from the wrist over the hand of the wearer without disconnecting and completely separating any of the parts of the strap from each other or from the watch and yet have such a construction that the strap may have its por-r tailed description of the present embodiment of this invention showing means by which these advantageous results may be accomplished;

12 and 13 at its ends adapting it to be attached to the bails or higs of a wrist watch. Strap part 11 carries a loop 11- suit ably secured to the end thereof by arms 15 and through this loop the strap part 10 may freely slide. 7

One member 16 of the buckle consists of a plate 17 with side ears 18 extending rearwardly therefrom. This plate 17 lies on the top of the mesh strap 11 and a clamp on gripper 19 pivoted as at 20 in the cars 18 engages the back of the strap 11. When the pivoted gripper 19 is moved into position shown in Figure 3, its serrated edge 21 cams against the strap and secures the member 16 in adjusted position thereon, whereas when swung through substantially 90 the strap is released and the member may be adjusted therealong. By this means of securing the member 16 no openings in the strap are necessary and the member may be secured in any desired position along the length of the strap.

The other member 22 of the separable buckle acts as a tip for the end of the strap part 10 and is of sulficient size to prevent the end of the strap part 10 from being withdrawn through the loop 141. This member eonsists of a plate 23 with arms 24: ex tending from its sides and bent to form a housing for the end portion of the strap part 10. Walls 25 extending from the arms 24 form a stop part of the housing against which the end. of the strap part 10 may abut, while flanges 26 serrated as at 27 on their edges are carried by the arms 2 1 and bite into the strap 10 and secure its end portion in the housing.

The plate 23 extends beyond the end of the strap portion 10 and is provided with openings 28, the wallsoi which are slit as at 29 to allow resiliency so that these openings may receive and snap over the projections or detents 80 carried by the plate 17 of the member 16, which plate 17 is depressed as at 31,,an amount substantially equal to the thickness of the stock of the" plate 23 to receive it.

The foregoing description is directed sole- 1y towards the construction illustrated, but

I desire it to: be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. 'A' separable buckle for bracelet strap parts, comprising two cooperating sheet metal members, one carried byeach of the strap parts, one member having means to adjustably secure it along one of said strap parts and the other member forming a tip for the other strap part and having a body portion embracing the end thereof and flanges extending from said body portion withserrated'edges to engage and grip the strap and secure the member thereto and cooperating means between said members for releasably securing them together.

2. YA separable buckle for bracelet strap parts comprising two cooperating sheet metal members,'onc carried by each of the strap parts, one member having means to adjustably secure it along one of said strap partsand the other member comprising a plate having a portion adapted to lie on the top of the end portion of the other of the strap parts and project beyond the end thereof, arms on the edge of the strap engaging portion of said plate for embracing the strap and flanges on said arms for securing the member thereto, and (moperating means between the projecting portion of said plate and the other member for releasably securing the members together.

8. A separable buckle for bracelet strap parts, comprising two cooperating sheet metal members, one carried by each of the strap parts, one member comprising a plate for lying on the top surface of one of said strap parts, ears rearwardly extending from said plate, a gripper pivotally mounted between said ears for engaging the rear surface of the strap and securing said member in a different position thereon, dctents projecting from said plate, and the other of said members carrying a portion with openings therein to snap over said detents, arms extending therefrom folded about the end portion of the other strap part, and flanges with serrated edges extending from said arms to grip the portion of the strap about which they are folded.
