Be it known that LZAMoRA' CJCAUFFMAN, citizen ofthe'United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented, a certain new and useful Improvement in Chin-Supporters, of which the following-is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in chin supporters, and, the, object o my in; vention is to provide a chinsupporterwhich, by its form of construction and by the'char acter of the material of which it is made, shall be adapted smoothly to fit and cover the surface of the chin and portions of the lower jaw of any child or grown person, and to be so bound to the head that such persons lower jaw may be maintained in a position to keep the mouth closed while such person sleeps, thus to prevent such person from snoring, and to hold the relaxed muscles of the cheeks and lower portion of the face in their natural positions thereby to preserve the youthful contour of the under portion of the cheeks and chin.

A further object of my invention is to provide a chin supporter which shall embody two pairs of fastening strings and associated devices that shall so eonjo-intly act, in the operation of applying the chin supporter, that a tightening strain on either of said pairs of strings shall impart an equal tightening strain on the other pair thereof thus more nearly to equalize the strain on all parts of the supporter.

I accomplish these objects by devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a persons head to which is fastened a chin supporter embodying my invention; and Fig. 2 is a plan view on a reduced scale of the same chin supporter as it appears when not in use.

Referring to the drawings, throughout which like reference numerals designate like parts, a textile fabric 3 that is loosely woven, or knitted, to adapt it smoothly to conform to an irregular surface by reason of its elasticity, is formed to be oblong, one of its side edges being straight and the opposite one thereof being outwardly curved while each of its opposite end portions is bifurcated, to form terminals 4 and 5 and terminals 6 and 7, as shown in Fig. 2.

A metal loop connector 13, having twonintegrfal eyelets 14 is disposed to be adjustably movable on each of the strings 9 and 10 as indicated in Fig. 2, the loop portions of said connectors 13 being extended toward the

11 and 12 respectively.

To support ones chin the fabric 3 is placed symmetrically with the outwardly bowed side edge adjacent to the mouth and with the opposite straight side edge under the chin adjacent to the neck, thereupon the

11 and 12 are tightly drawn backwardly to cross each other behind the neck. the string 12 then being extended upwardly on the right hand side of the head to a point above the right ear where it is projected through the loop of the loop connector 13 of the string 9 to extend thence to the top of the back part of the head, there to be tied by a-bow knot to the end of the string 11 which extends downwardly on the left hand side of the head to a point above the left ear where it passes through the loop of the loop connector 13 of the string 10 and thence downwardly and around the back of the neck to the terminal 6 of the fabric 3.

The loop connector 13, through whose eyelets 14. extend the respective strings 9 and 10, are adjusted so that when said strings 9 and 10 are extended to the more forward portion of the top of the head and there tied by a bow knot 15, then said loop connectors 13 will be disposed at points higher than the tops of the ears.

With the strings so relatively disposed it is manifest that in the operation of tying the knots 15 and 16 one-half of the strain exerted on the pair of strings last tied will be imparted to the other pair that was first tied, whereby all of the

4, 5, 6 and 7 will be subjected to equal strains thereby to cause the loosely woven fabric 3 smoothly to conform to the contour of the surfacecovered by it.

Manifestly, the shape ofthe' piece of fabric 3 may widely difi'er from its shape as shown in the drawings, andthe loop connectors 13 may be movably disposedon" either of the pairs of strings'and maybe 1 different in form and material, without departmg from the spirit of my invention.

What I claim is: V

1.
