Claims.

This invention relates to wearing apparel, and particularly to an improved undergarment which may be termed a combined girdle and shorts, an object being to provide a construction which 5 will act as shorts and at the same time present abdominal supporting features.

Another object of the invention is to provide a garment formed with an abdominal supporting member associated with shorts and formed to produce a minimum molding or constricting action at the back of the person using the garment.

A further object of the invention is to provide a combined abdominal support and pants.

Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals I indicates the body of the girdle and 2 the belt which merges into the body and really forms a v-extension thereof. The body and belt are tubular andare shown seamless although they could be made with a seam it desired. In forming these two members the fabric is more or less flaring from the top to the bottom so as to more readily conform to the shape of the body of a person. Both the, body I and the belt 2 include textile fabric and rubber strands. The rubber 5 strands are arranged circumferentialiy so that the elasticity and stretchability of these two members is much greater circumferentially than longitudinally whereby a constricting abdominal support is presented.

40 As shown particularly in Fig. 3, the body is comparatively narrow at 3 which is preferably the center of the back. At the front the garment is adapted to stretch and conform to the shape of the body of the person. The lower edge 4 of 45 the body I, as indicated in Fig. 3, inclines downwardly and then gradually merges into an almost horizontal edge portion 4'. In this way the back of the person is confined but little while the front and sides are confined or constricted to a greater extent and a certain amount of supporting action is secured.

To the bottom edge of the body I shorts 5 are secured by a suitable line of stitching. These shorts are preferably made from three pieces,

namely, the sides 6 and l and the back section 8 and presenting non-constricting portion. The textile fabric used in sections 6, l and 8 may be. of any suitable kind but preferably of material elastic in all directions. The sides It and l extend from the .back section around to the front 5 where they are overlapped at 9 to produce a fly. At the back the side sections are secured by lines of stitching I0 and II to the back section 8. This section is formed of two-ply material and when spread out is almost diamond-shaped but the ex- 10 treme ends are cutoff so that one end of this section is secured to the rear lower edge of the body I and the front end is secured at l2 to the front portion of the side sections 6 and I. As indicated in Fig. 1, the front portions of these 1 two side sections are formed with a vnotch It so that the rounded end It can fit therein. This notch and rounded end formation prevents any distortion of these parts when strain is brought to bear thereon as this arrangement permits a 20 proper distribution 01' the strain. The portion I5 0! the section 8 really forms a crotch member and is adapted to extend through the crotch of the person wearing the device so that with this member and the side members there are provided 25 leg openings It and I1.

In Fig. 4 a modified construction is disclosed which is similar to that shown in Figs. 1 to 3, except that at the rear the parts are differently formed. Referring particularly to Fig. 4 it will 30 be seen that the belt section I8 is of non-elastic material and extends from point I9 to point 20 which is slightly less than from one side to the other side of the garment. It will also be noted that the elastic member I is chamfered at 2 I and 22 so that there is no part of this member below the non-elastic belt section Ill. The respective panels 6, l and 8 extend upwardly to the bottom edge of the section I8 so asto complete the garment. Aside from the features just described the garment is the same as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

It will be evident that, if desired, the back of the garment could be made as shown in Fig. 2 and the non-elastic panel I! arranged in front. When this is done the elastic body I is left as shown in Fig. 1 so that the lower part thereof may function as constricting and abdominal supporting member.

The garment is a step-in structure and when it is donned it is pulled upwardly over the feet and legs until the belt 2 is substantially at the waist line of the person using the garment.

I claim: 4

1. A combined girdle and shorts comprising a girdle portion having a belt of elastic and resilient fabric of a given strength and an elastic body of greater strength, said belt and body having a greater circumferential resiliency and elasticity than longitudinally, the upper edge of said belt being of a certain diameter and the remaining part of the belt and the body substantially flaring with the lower edge of the body slanting downwardly from the center of the rear to the center of the front when the garment is in use and when viewed from the side, and a pants structure including a two-ply section of elastic fabric at the back extending from the lower edge of said body to the crotch and upwardly in front, said front and side sections of elastic fabric extending respectively from the side edges of said two-ply section around to the frontwhere they overlap for forming a fly, said front and said side sections having an arc-shaped notch in the lower edges at the point of overlapping, the front end of said twoply section having a rounded end and stitching connecting said rounded'end to said front and side sections in said notch.

A combined girdle and shorts comprising a girdle portion having an elastic body of greater resiliency and elasticity circumferentially than longitudinally, said body substantially flaring with the lower edge of the body slanting downwardly from the center of the rear to the center of the front, and a pants structure including front and side sections and a. rear section of textile fabric extending from the lower edge of said body at the back to the crotch and upwardly in front, said front and side sections of textile fabric extending respectively from the side edges of said rear section around to the front where they overlap, said side sections at the front having an arc-shaped notch in the lower edges at their point of overlapping, the front end of said back section having a rounded end and a line of stitching connecting said rounded end to said overlapped side sections in said notch.

A garment comprising an endless elastic abdominal constricting portion formed of fabric including .circumferentially extending rubber strands, said constricting portion having a relatively wide front part inclined upwardly toward the back and merging into a relatively narrow back part, said front part extending downwardly from the waistline approximately half way to the crotch of the wearer, and a textile fabric nonconstricting portion connected at its upper edge to the lower edge of the said constricting portion,

A garment comprising an endless elastic abdominal constricting portion formed of fabric including circumferentially extending rubber strands, said constricting portion having a relatively wide front part inclined upwardly toward the back and merging into a relatively narrow back part, said front part extending downwardly from the waistline approximately half way to the crotch of the wearer, and a textile fabric non-constricting portion connected at its upper edge to the lower edge of said constricting portion at all points along the lower edge of the constricting portion, said non-constricting portion presenting pants having a body loosely covering the thighs and posterior region of the wearer, said body being formed with leg-encircling parts and a crotch part, said leg-encircling parts at the front being overlapped above said crotch part to form a fly opening.

5. A garment comprising an endless elastic abdominal constricting portion formed of fabric including circumferentially extending rubber 'strands, said constricting portion having a relatively wide front part inclined upwardly toward the back and merging into a relatively narrow back part, said front part extending downwardly from the waistline approximately half way to the crotch of the wearer, and a textile fabric non-constricting portion connected at its upper edge to the lower edge of said constricting portion, said non-constricting portion having a body covering the thighs and posterior region of the wearer, said body being formed with side members overlapping at the front and a back member inserted between the rear end edges of the side members, said back member merging into a crotch member extending upwardly at the front, and a seam connecting the front end of said crotch member to said side members at their point of overlapping.
