Description

CORSET FASTENER Filed Aug. 27, 1934 Attarnsy Patented `iuly 28, 1936 STATES 2 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a corset fastener. The primary object of the invention being to provide a fastener that may be instantaneously released in case of emergency.
A further object of the invention is to provide movable fastening means on one side of the said corset arranged to engage fixed members on the opposite side thereof the said movable fastening means being actuated simultaneously to engage or release the said fixed members.
A stillfurther object of the invention is to provide a corset fastener as described having means attached thereto whereby to retain the device in the fastened postion and prevent it being inadvertently released.
With these and other objects in view that may appear while the description proceeds the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically set forth, claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which:-
Fig. 1 is a front view of my improved fastener in the closed position.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the fasteners rel-eased.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of the lower end thereof showing the retaining means thereon.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail view of an alternative construction of the retaining means.
Referring more in detail to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views it will be seen the invention comprises an inner longitudinal member IU, having a plurality of downwardly curved projections II formed integral therewith and constituting the upper halves of the fastening elements. An outer longitudinal member I2 of similar construction is slidably mounted on the member I by means of pins I3 having enlarged heads to retain the same thereon. Elongated orifices I4 are provided therein to engage the said pins thereby permitting the member I2 to move in order to bring the projections II and the corresponding projections I5 on the member I2 into contacting relation to each other. The said projections II and I5 are slightly bent outwards and inwards respectively so that the outer extremities thereof shall meet.
On the opposite side of the corset is another longitudinal member I6 on which a plurality of studs I 'I are secured, the said studs being arranged in position on the said member to correspond with the aforesaid fastening elements.
It will be seen that when the member I 2 is pushed upwards the projections will engage each other around the studs II and securely hold the corset fastened. Should the occasion arise for an emergency unfastening the member I2 is pull-ed downward and the fasteners will all release their grip on the studs and the corset will be thereby unfastened.
A hinged fastener I8 is provided on the lower end of the longitudinal member I2 and is positioned to engage a slot I9 in the member I6 thereby providing means closing the lower end of the corset and at the same time retaining the fastening elements closed upon the studs and thus preventing the same becoming inadvertently unfastened by the movement of the member I 2.
In Fig. 4 is shown an alternate fastener for the lower end of the corset which comprises a spring steel member 20 having a slot 2| cut therein. Said slot terminates in a slightly enlarged circular orifice 22. On the member I6 is a stud 23 similar to the studs I'I onto which the spring fastener 20 is pressed. Owing to the spring action of the fastener the stud may be readily engaged or disengaged from the slot. The said fastener and stud are positioned to be engaged when the members II and I5 are closed on the studs and thus prevent a downward movement of the member I2 until the said fastener is released.
It is believed that the construction and advantages of the structure shown will be apparent from the foregoing paragraphs taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing without further detailed description.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been disclosed it is understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of co-operating elements may be resorted to within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim 1. In a corset fastener, the combination of a at strip having a series of laterally extending projections formed integral with one longitudinal edge, a relatively movable strip slidably mounted on said first mentioned strip having also a series of lateral projections formed integral with one longitudinal edge, the projections ofsaid strips having their ends curved towards each other to form co-acting hooks, said hooks being off-set to lie in the same plane, so as to contact with each other upon movement of said movable strip in one direction, and a strip having headed pins around which said projections engage.
2. In a corset fastener, the combination of a flat strip having along one of its longitudinal edges a series of spaced laterally extending integral projections, a relatively movable strip slidably mounted on said rst mentioned strip having also a series of lateral projections formed integral with one longitudinal edge, the projections of said strips having their ends curved towards each other to form co-acting hooks, said hooks being off-set to lie in the same plane, so as to Contact with each other upon movement of said movable strip in one direction, a strip having headed pins adapted to be gripped by said projections and a fastening element for securing said movable strip and said last mentioned strip together when said projections are engaged with said pins.
