Description
L. J. SABIN `une 1'6, 1936.
GLOVE Y Filed Sept. 9, A1935 Elfi 4 LGV James Snn INVENTOR.'
ATTORNEY mans glove and more particularly Patented June 16, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GLovE Levi James Sabin, Youngstown, Ohio Application September 9, 1935, Serial No. 39,685
5 Claims. (Cl. 2-161) This invention relates to gloves.
The principal object is to provide a working a glove to be worn by Welders. y
A further object is to provide a secondary back cover for the gloves.
A further object is to provide a heat breaker member for the protection of the workmans hands.
A further object is to provide an extended portionof the secondary back cover to provide protection for the side of the hand and the crotch formed by the indexl finger and thumb.
A further object is to provide inturned seams on the secondary back member.
A still further object is to provide a secondary 4back cover having open ends.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made Within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:-
Figure 1 isa side view of a glove showing the thumb side of the glove.
Figure 2 is a View of the glove showing the palm side of the glove.
Figure 3 is an enlarged cross section taken on line 3 3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 isfan enlarged vcross section taken on line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is an enlarged cross section taken on line 5 5 of Figure 2.
Figure 6 is a detail view showing the pattern of the back of the glove and the heat breaker member.
Figure 7 is a detail view showing the pattern of the secondary back member.
By referring to the drawing it will be seen that there is provided a welding glove having a cuff l a back member 2, and a palm member I2. This back member 2 is constructed with a heat breaker member 3. (See Figsni, 5, and 6.)
By referring to the drawing it will also be seen that there is provided a secondary back cover 4. This secondary back cover is secured to the sides of the glove in arelatively loose manner and has each end open thus providing for` the circulation of air as the workman opens and closes his hand. By referring to Figures 3, 4, and 5 it will be seen that the secondary cover 4 is secured to the sides of the glove by means of an inturned seam 5. By this particular construction the seam 5 is protected and at the same time tends to hold the secondary back member spaced apart from the back- 2 of the glove. g
By referring to Figure 7 it will be seen that a pattern of the secondary back member is shown. This pattern shows an extended side portion 6. By referring to Figure 1 it will be seen that this extended side portion 6 extends out over the cuff seam 1 and the curved corner portion 8 protects the crotch 9 formed between the index finger I0 and the thumb I l This glove provides a protection for the hands of a Welder in performing his work; Welders commonly find the work so hot that they frequently dip their gloved hands in water to get relief from the intense heat.. The important feature of this particular type of glove construction is that it protects the hands so fully that it is unnecessary to continue this practice.
In the construction of these gloves it is desirable to use a good grade of leathenand the heat breaker member 3 is preferably made of relatively heavy grade of fabric.
What I claim isz- 1. In a welders glove comprising the usual back, palm, arid cuff portions, a heat breaker comprising a piece of insulating vmaterial attached to the inside of said back portion and being slibstantially coextensive with said glove back, and a secondary back cover comprising a piece of material secured on the outer side of the back of the glove by inturned seams at both sides with the intermediate material free of the glove back.
2. In a welders glove comprising the usual back, palm, and cuff portions, a heat breaker comprising a piece of insulating material attached to the inside of said back portion and being substantially coextensive with said glove back, and a secondary back cover comprising a piece of material loosely secured on the outer side of the back of the glove by inturned seams at both sides with the. intermediate material free of the glove back, said secondary back cover extending from the wrist to the finger tips of said glove.
3. In a welders glove comprising the usual back, palm, and cuff portions, a heat breaker comprising a piece of insulating material attached to the inside of said back portion and being substantially coextensive with said glove back, and a secondary back cover comprising a piece of material loosely secured on the outer side of the back of the glove by inturned seams at both sides with the intermediate material free o! the glove back, an extended portion on secondary back cover extending over the seam on the cuif of said glove.
4. In a welders glove comprising the usual back, palm, and cui portions, a heat breaker comprising a piece of insulating material attached to the inside of said back portion and being substantially coextensive with s aid glove back, and a secondary back cover comprising a piece of material loosely secured on the outer side of the 4haci: of the glove by inturned seams at both sides with the intermediate ymaterial free of the glove back, an extended portion on secondary back cover extending over the seam on the cuii of said glove, a curved corner portion on secondary back cover extending over the crotch formed between the thumb and index finger.
5. In a leather glove comprising the usual back, palm, and cui portions, a heat breaker comprising a piece of heavy fabric attached to the inside of said back portion and being substantially coextensive with said glove back, and a secondary back cover comprising a piece of material loosely secured on the outer side of the back of the glove by inturned seams at both sides with the intermediate material free of the glove back, a curved corner portion on secondary back cover extending over the crotch formed between the thumb and index nger.
