Description

EL W3@ D. MANSBEWGER @,WW
BOOKING STOOL AND CRADLE Filed March 25, 1935 ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 31, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a combined rocking chair and cradle, and has for the primary object the provision of a device of this character which will provide in a single unit a comfortable chair capable of safe rocking motion and when inverted will provide a cradle `also capable of safe rocking motion, the unit being simple, durable and cheap to manufacture whereby such a device may be sold at a low cost.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invento-n, reference is to be had to the following dc.- scription and accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a front elevation illustrating a combined rocking chair and cradle constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional View taken on the line 2 2 oil Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a View similar to Figure 2 with the unit inverted to provide a cradle.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 5 showing a modified form of my invention wherein the unit is constructed of metal.
Figure 5 is a sectional View taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 4.
Referring in detail tothe drawing, the numeral l indicates in entirety a unit capable of providing a safe and comfortable rocking chair or cradle capable of rocking motion. The unit includes elliptical-shaped end members 2 connected by panels 3, 4, 5 and 6. The panel 6 either forms a seat for a chair or a bottom for a 'cradle while the panel 3 forms a back for the seat. The panels 4 and 5 provide sides to the cradle and also act as braces for the seat panel between the latter and the side members when the unit is employed as a rocking chair with a person seated on the seat panel. The end members 2 and panels referred to are constructed of wood or any other similar material. 'Ihe uni-t positioned as shown in Figure 2 provides an efficient rocking chair and when inverted to occupy a position shown in Figure 3, it provides an elcient rocking cradle.
Referring to my modied form of invention, the unit is preferably constructed of metal wherein the end members 2 are flanged, as shown at l. The edges of the panels 3, 4, 5 and 6 are bent upon themselves to form finished edges and aid in reinforcing the panels. It is to be noted that the panels 4, 5 and 5 when constructed of metal are of integral construction while the panel 3 may be suitably secured to the panel 4.
Having described the invention, I claim:
A combined rocking chair and cradle comprising spaced elliptical shaped end members and each presenting curved rocking edges, a seat panel having its ends secured to opposing faces; of the end members, a pair of spaced panels secured to said faces of the end members and abutting the seat panel adjacent the opposite edges thereof to cooperate therewith and with said end members in providing a cradle during the positioning of the end members with certain rocking edges thereof in contact with a supporting surface, and a panel secured to said faces of the end members and abutting the seat panel and extending therefrom in a direction opposite to that of said pair of members to provide a back rest when the end members are positioned to bring the other rocking edges into engagement with the supporting surface.
