COMBINED SINK AND DRAIN Filed June 14, 1955 EuZaZie Swain ill Patented Mar. 24, 1936 2,035,090 comm smx sun nnsm Eulalie swan. Midland, Tex. v Application June 14, 1935, Serial No. 26,668
2 Claims. (01. 4-189) The object of my inventioifis to provide a novel combined sink and drain having separate drain pipes for the drain and for the sink, and having the rim of the drain and of the sink level and continuous and set level in the frame but havin the bottoms slightly inclined toward the discharge opening, and having a novel arrangement of ribs for the bottom of the drain, and having the drain and sink combined in one unit and cast integrally and with rounded corners broadly curved to facilitate cleaning. I attain these and other objects of my invention by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in
which- Figure 1 is a top plan viewof my combined sink and drain;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through same with a slightly modified drain opening; 7
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the invention with a modified ribbingior the drain; and
Fig. 4 is a side elevation showing the preferred arrangement of the drain pipes.
Like numerals designate like the several views.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, there is illustrated a sink I, an integral drain 2, having an integral and level rim 3- and an intervening level rim 4. The sink is provided with the discharge openings 5, and the drain is provided with the discharge openings 6, or the conventional large drain channel 5' for sink i and a conventional type of large drain opening 8' for drain 2, may be provided, if preferred, as shown in Fig. 2. The bottoms of the sink and drain incline slightly parts in each of from all points to the point'oi discharge, but
the rims are level throughout, as illustrated.
The sink drain 5 opens into thedrain pipe I and the drain opening. opens into the drain pipe 8, which is connected at M with the sink drain 7 I at a point above the trap 8, as shown in Fig. 4. I may provide the diagonally disposed ribs ll integral with the bottom of the drain 1, as shown in Fig. 3; or I may provide a parallel arrangement of ribs l2, as shown in Fig. l, the latter being my preierred construction as it provides'a more uniform support'ior the dishes placed in the drain. 1 I
AsshowninFig.l,boththesinkandthe drain are provided with broadly curved corners which permit oi easy cleaning the sink and drain. One of the advantages of this new type of sink is that it can be'built in a cabinet and supported by its level rim, and it also can be constructed at a reasonable cost within the price range of the average purchaser. It will be noted that as the drain has a separate drain pipe it can take care of an unlimited amount of rinsing water without in the least interfering with the sink proper.
An important feature of the invention is that 1 as the rim of the sink and drain'are continuous and level throughout, a cabinet top can be built perfectly level and the sink and drain mounted in same. This construction also increases the possibilitles or carrying out attractive decorative schemes in connection with the cabinet and the sink.
While I prefer to connect the drains I and 9 as shown in Fig. 4, it is within the contemplation of'my invention to provide a separate trap for the drain pipe 6, ii for plumbing reasons suchconstruction is desired. It is contemplated that this sink may be used with a swinging type of faucet, which may be swung either over the sink or :the drain, as desired.- Or a rubber hose and spray may be connected with a conventional faucet, if that type oi faucet is already provided.
It will be noted that the drain pipes of the. I sink and the drain are both located, at adjacent ends of the sink and drain, whereby a short pipe 9 will connect the ends as shown, at l0 where pipe 4 9 enters pipe 1.
What I claim is:
1. A main sink and an integral relatively shallow auxiliary drain sink, each having a drain opening-and pipe positioned near adgiacent ends oithe drain and sink, said pipes being connected at a point above the trap.
2. A main sink and'an integral relatively shal- :low auxiliary drain sink, each having a drain and drain and being on a level with the outside rims.
