UNITED STATES 1,709,545` PATENT OFFICE.
ELEANOR V. sHEPrAnD, or cHIcAeogILLINoIs.
srNK SPLASH` GUARD. y
Application led February 17, 1928. Serial No. 254,982.
My invention in general relates to devices for preventing the spilling and splashing of water from sinks and the like.
More particularly my invention relates to a novel anti-splash guard adapted for instant attachment to and detachment from a sink.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of'this kind of simple and inexpensive construction particularly adapted for quantity production. f
A further object of my invention is to provide a splash guard adapted to be instantly applied to all types of sinks, wash stands, tubs or similar plumbing fixtures. Other objects and advantages of the method and construction herein employed will appear more fully in the hereinafter specification, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective View of my device.
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of my device operatively attached to a conventional sink.
Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.'
Vith more particular reference to the drawings wherein similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views, A designates my splash guard consisting preferably of an oblong sheet of metal 11 which is suitably enameled or provided with a coating of porcelain. At the top of the metal sheet 11, I form a curve or roll 12 the end edges of which are slightly inturned for a purpose hereinafter described. The lower portion of the metal sheet has a crimp or folded portion 13 which serves to re-inforce the entire sheet.
Secured to the body of the metal sheet 11 by rivets 1l or other suitabley means,'are resilient brackets B-B which are made of strips of metal 14. within rubber tubing 15, and bent to form an involute portion 16 with a beading or roll 17 at the end thereof. 4
The mode of operation of my invention has been in large measure indicated by the foregoing description in connection with the several accompanying views, but will be more fuly apparent fromV the following brief eX- planation Y lVhen use is made of the conventional sink, much annoyance has been 'caused by the splashing of water from the faucets. To prevent this it is desirable to have some means preferably susceptible of instant attachment members B-Bf, the involute portion of` Awhich is adapted to permit' the inwardly curving edge of the roll of the sink to enter into and to register with the convolution ofy my novel brackets B-B. My bracket is applied to the form of the sink shown in Fig. 3 in an inverted position, the extremity 18 of the roll of the sink being the pivot point about which the brackets B-B partly revolve and swing into the position as shown. To remove the splash guard it is merely necessary to draw the body of the guard backward i in a clockwise direction as viewed from the disclosure in Fig. 3, thus permitting the instant disengagement of the device.
The inturned edges of the roll 12 serve to prevent a premature spilling of the Aaccumulated drops of water which mayrun together when my splash guard is being detached, the
edges providing a scoop formation for the water when the guard is inverted, preparatory to tipping and draining. 1
It is evident that my invention is susceptible to somevvariation and modification; hence I do not confine myself literally to the details as set forth butwish to take advantage of such changes and embodiments as fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the kind described comprising a sheet ofmetal having a flared roll at its top portion and serving as a sink splash guard, a plurality of resilient brackets se`v cured to said sheet of metal,v each of said brackets having a beading with a reentrant portion formed with an integral involute formation registering with an involute portion on the rolled edge of a cooperating sink whereby said splash guard may be applied to and supported by the sink, by means of said brackets.
2.- A sink splash guard comprisinga plurality of resilient rubber covered brackets secured to an oblong sheet of metal serving as a main body of the guard, said sheet of metal being crimped et its lower end and having a flared portion at its upper part, each of said brackets having an integral nvolute curve terminating n a resilient beading whereby 5 said brackets may be applied to a corresponding nvolute portion of the sink and then par tally revolved around said curved upper portion of the vSink in a manner to secure engagement with and a ready detachment 'from the sink. 10
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to thsspeecaton.
ELEANOR V. SHEPPARD.
