UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES GALLASPIE, OF RUSSIAVILLE, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRACE-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 203,028, dated April 30, 1878; application filed September 29, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES GALLASPIE, of Russiaville, in the county of Howard and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Trace-Holders, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a front view of my improved trace-holder, part being broken away to show the construction. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, taken through the line .70 m, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved device for holding up the traces or tugs, keeping them straight, and preventing them from swinging about when slack, which shall be simple in construction, neat and ornamental in appearance, and durable.
The invention consists of an improved traceholder formed of the two pieces, hinged to each other at their lower ends, notched upon their inner sides, and secured to each other by a thumb-screw at the upper end of the smaller part, the upper end of the larger part being extended upward, and having an eye formed in it to receive the supporting-strap, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the bodyor main part of the device, in the upper end of which is formed an eye, a, to receive the strap by which it is secured to the hip-strap of the harness.
To the lower end of the piece or part A is hinged a piece or part, B, the upper end of which is let into the part A, so that the outer surface may be smooth. The inner sides of the pieces A B are notched, so as, when the two pieces are closed, to form a hole to receive the trace or tug. The upper end of the part B may be secured to the part A, fastening the device to the tug or trace by a thumbscrew, 0, which should be made with around head, to prevent the horses tail, or anything else, from catching upon it.
The device is designed to be made of metal, and may be of any desired ornamental shape.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An improved trace-holder formed of the pieces A B, hinged to each other at their lower ends, notched upon their inner sides, and secured to each other by a thumb-screw, O, at the upper end of the part B, the upper end of the part A being extended upward, and having an eye, a, formed in it to receive the supporting-strap, substantially as herein shown and described.
JAMES GALLASPIE.
