GHECKBEIN ATTACHMENT;
Specification of Letters Patent.
PatentedN'ov. 6, 1917;
Application filed April 20, 1917. Serial No. 163,403.
To aZZ whom it concern:
Be it known that I, IVILLI M 0 BACK LUND, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Stromsburg, in the county of Polk and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in checkrein Attachments, of which the following is a specification. V
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in buckles, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a new and improved check rein attachment, used for separating the reins, and preventing the same from turning over, or slipping, and also from catching in the fly net.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character, which is easily and simply constructed, inexpensive to manufacture, and one which will be very efficient in operation.
lVith these and numerous other objects in view my invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinreferred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claims.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan view of my-check rein attachment, showing the rein applied thereto;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the same.
In describing my invention I shall refer to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views. This check rein attachment, is applicable to the type of check rein, wherein certain portions there of converge, one of the converging portions extending rearwardly, and being connected to the hook by which the rein is held, and the other portion being secured by this at tachment.
The numeral 1 designates a buckle, formed of a substantially rectangular shaped metal frame, and having a tongue 2 mounted on the rear side 3 thereof. Projecting from the rear side of the ends thereof, are diverging rods .1-, which have their free ends connected by a vertically positioned strap engaging loop 5. The strap is additionally held in position by a supplemental holding member, that connects the rods 4 adjacent their inner ends, and which is substantially half-looped shaped, the same being designated by the numeral 6.
The upper edge 7 of the loop 5 has pivotally mounted thereon a dividing, pin 8, which is disposed centrally of said loop, and which extends downwardly across the same, having itslower edge engagingthe bottom edge 9 of said loop. This pin'is positioned as has been stated centrally, and formsa dividing mark between the converging portions of the strap employed in this type .of check j rein.
In operation one of the converging portions of the check rein, which is designated by the numeral 10, has its end extending through the loop 5 between one side of the same and the dividing pin, and its extremity is held in position by engagement with the tongue 2 of the buckle 1. The other converging portion of the check rein which is designated by the numeral 11 passes through the other portion of the loop 5, and is posi tioned over the portion 10 of said rein, this portion likewise being engaged by the tongue of the buckle 1, and said portion extends from the front end thereof as shown at 12, this portion of the checkrein being connected with the hook, not shown, to hold the device in position.
This typeof check rein attachment will securely hold the check rein in position, and prevent the buckle from slipping through the ring on the harness and catching, and also from being entangled with the fly net. This attachment furthermore keeps the check rein in upright position, and prevents the same from turning over during use. The attachment is very economically manufactured, owing to its extreme simplicity and it may be easily applied to the conventional type of check rein of this character now in use.
A check rein attachment of this character permits the reins to be shifted as desired, should it be necessary to change from a right line to a left line. The dividing pin owing to the fact that it is pivotally mounted may be swung upwardly, so as to allow the reins to shift.
From the foregoing description of the construction and operation of my new and improved type of check rein attachment, the manner of applying the same to use and the operation thereof will be readily understood, and it will be seen that I have provided a simple and efficient means for carryout the objects of this invention. Although I have in this embodiment defined my check rein attachment specifically I do not wish it to be understood as confining the invention to this particular type, nor the exact construction, arrangement and adaptation of parts shown and described, as I reserve the right to make any changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A device of the class described includ ing a buckle, a pair of diverging rods projecting from one end thereof, a transversely extending vertical loop connecting the free ends'of said rods, and a centrally disposed mamas WILLIAM O. BACKLUND.
