Description

Dec. 24, 1935;. I J A' DEPQY 2,025,649
LAUNDRY CABINET c Original Filed NOV. 20, 1934-.
INVENTOR BY v I ATTOR N EY Patented Dec. 24, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application November 20, 1934, Serial No. 753,932 Renewed November 21, 1935 5 Claims.
This invention relates to cabinets and its general object is to provide a cabinet that is primarily designed for domestic laundry work in that it not only includes ironing boards but also ample space for receiving laundry, after it is ironed orfinished, so that the finished laundry may be kept free from dirt and foreign matter, yet ready access may be had thereto, when desired.
Another object of the invention is to provide a laundry cabinet including ironing boards, which are concealed when not in use and they are carried by a hinged panel of the top of the cabinet, so that they can be disposed into and out of use in an easy and expeditious manner, merely by moving the panel on its hinges.
A further object of the invention is to provide a laundry cabinet of the character set forth, that is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and extremely efficient in use and service.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cabinet which forms the subject matter of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken therethrough.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be noted that the legs I of my cabinet provide the corner pieces for the body thereof and to which are secured the end walls 2, the rear wall 3, the front wall 4, and the bottom 5.
The top of the cabinet is made up of a plurality of panels, there being three' shown in the form disclosed in the drawing, and two of these panels which are indicated by the reference numerals 6 and l are fixed and disposed in spaced relation with respect to each other to provide a space for the third panel 8 that may be designated as the intermediate or hinge panel.
The panel 8 is of a width to fit the space between the panels 6 and l and it is preferably secured to the front panel 1 by hinges 9 for movement toward the front of the cabinet to contact and overlie the panel I as clearly shown in Figure 1.
Secured to the intermediate panel 8 and adjacent one end thereof is a block In which in turn has secured thereto one end of an ironing board 1 I which extends longitudinally of the panel 8 and. in spaced relation with respect thereto, due to the block In that is secured to the underside of the panel 8, as shown. 5
Pivotally secured to the ironing board II is a sleeve board I2 that is movable on its pivot for disposal at right angles with respect to the board II when arranged for use, as shown in Figure 1, or longitudinally thereof as shown in Figure 2.
The front wall of the cabinet is provided with openings to receive drawers l3 having means for supporting the same, and when the board H is arranged within the cabinet as shown in Figure 2, it will be arranged in the path of drawers to act as a stop therefor. However, the front of the drawers l3 extend beyond the same to contact the front wall of the cabinet, as best shown in Figure 2.
It will be noted from Figure 2 that ample space is provided within the cabinet to receive laundry as it is ironed or finished, and the space between the panels 6 and 'l is primarily designed for the passage of such laundry for disposal on the bottom 5 of the cabinet. This laundry is removed through openings in the front wall, that are closed by doors M.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, pro.- vided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A laundry cabinet comprising a body, a top for said body including a hinged panel, ironing boards having connection with the underside of the panel, and a front wall for said body, said body being provided with access means to the interior thereof through the top and front wall respectively.
2. A laundry cabinet comprising a body, a top for said body including a hinged panel for closing an opening providing access to the interior of the body, ironing boards connected with the underside of the hinged panel for disposal for use when the panel is moved to open position, a front wall for the body and including openings providing access to the body, and doors for closing the openings.
3. A laundry cabinet comprising a body, a top for said body including fixed panels spaced to provide an opening for access to the interior of the body, a panel hinged to one of the first mentioned panels for closing the space, an ironing board secured to the underside of the hinged panel and extending longitudinally thereof, a front wall for the body and having openings therein for access to the interior of the body, and doors closing the openings. 7
I 4. A laundry cabinet comprising a body, a top for said body including fixed panels spaced to provide access to the interior of the body, a panel hinged to one of the first mentioned panels for closing the space, an ironing board secured to the hinged panel and extending longitudinally thereof, a sleeve board pivoted to the underside of the ironing board, a front wall for the body and having openings therein providing access to the interior of the cabinet, doors for closing the openings of the front wall, and drawers mounted in the front wall.
5. A laundry cabinet comprising a body, a top for said body including panels fixed in spaced relation with respect to each other to provide an opening for access to the interior of the cabinet, a
panel for closing the opening and being mounted 5 for movement to open and closed positions, an ironing board connected to the underside of the movable panel, a front wall for the body and having openings therein to provide access to the interior of the cabinet whereby laundry disposed through the opening of the top can be removed through the openings of the frontwall, doors for the openings of the front wall, drawers mounted in the front wall, and said ironing board being 5 disposed in the path of the drawers when the l movable panel is arranged in closed position.
