3 Claims. (Cl. 219-35) This invention relates to a domestic appliance and more particularly to compartments provided with double doors and movable shelves.
Some compartments are made with rolling or sliding shelves in order that the material placed thereon may be readily viewed and examined and made more accessible.
It is an object of my invention to provide an arrangement whereby a compartment having double doors may have a shelf moved outwardly whenever the doors are opened so that any material on the shelf may be made accessible and in plain view.
This and other objects are attained in the form shown by providing a compartment having a sliding shelf. This sliding shelf is connected by a bent link to a traveler connected by links with each of the doors. The traveler rides upon a guide rod perpendicular to the plane of the doors. The opening of either door will cause the equal opening of the other door and also the outward movement of the slidable shelf.
Further objects and advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings wherein a preferred form of the invention is clearly shown.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a perspective view of a domestic electric range embodying one form of my invention;
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view similar to Figure 2 with the doors open and the shelf pulled out;
Figure 5 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 2; and
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on the line 6-6 of Figure 5.
Referring now more particularly to Figure 1 as an example of one pertinent application of my invention there is shown a domestic electric range provided with a range top 20, side walls 22 and a bottom panel 24. The range top 20 may be provided with surface heaters 26 individually controlled by switches 28 upon the front of the panel. The oven heating means may be controlled by a switch means 30.
Between the top panel 20 and the bottom panel 24 are the twin or double doors 32 and 34. These form the front wall of the oven compartment 36 which is completed by the side walls 38, a top wall, a bottom wall 40 and a rear Wall 42. The outer edges of the double doors 32 and 34 are hinged to the outer side panels 22 as shown in Figure 4.
Within the oven compartment 36 there is provided a shelf 44 which is slidably mounted upon the ledges 46 provided on the side walls 38. The front corners of the shelf 44 are beveled as shown by the reference characters 48 to provide clearance as the shelf is moved partly out before the doors are completely open.
Beneath the bottom wall 40 is a second bottom wall 50.
Mounted upon this second bottom wall 50 is a long rectangular frame 52 (see Figure 4) which supports a guide rod 54 extending perpendicular to the doors 32 and 34 from the front edge 56 of the bottom wall to the rear wall 42. A traveler 58, shown in detail in Figures 5 and 6, is slidably mounted upon this guide rod 54. The traveler 58 is provided with a pivot screw 60 extending into its bottom portion which provides a pivotal connection, a link 62, having its other end pivotally connected to the door 32. The upper portion of the traveler 58 is provided with a pivot pin 64 which is likewise threaded into the traveler 58. This pin 64 is connected to a link 66 identical to the link 62. The link 66 connects to the door 34. With this arrangement when either of the doors is opened the other will be opened a similar amount.
To yieldingly hold the doors in the closed position the rear end of the frame 52 is provided with a set of leaf springs 68 which have inwardly extending projections for engaging the button 70 provided upon the rear end of the traveler 58. When the doors are closed the button cams outwardly the inwardly extending projections of the spring 68 and is caught behind the projections to hold the doors closed.
According to my invention l make use of this mechanism to pull out the shelf 44. To do this I connnect an additional link 72 to the pivot pin 54. This link '72 extends forwardly and is bent upwardly over the front Wall S6 and thence extends rearwardly in the oven compartment 36. Its upper end is provided with a forked construction 74 which receives the heavy Wire bar 76 forming the perimeter of the shelf 44. The remainder of the slicif 44 is made of crossbars extending between the sides of the perimeter bar 76.
With this arrangement whenever the traveler 5S is moved by the opening of the doors 32 and 34 the shelf 44 will be moved an equal amount. When the doors are fully closed the shelf 44 will be in its rearmost position while when the doors are wide open as shown in Figure the shelf 44 will be pulled out to its maximum extent. By this arrangement the material on the shelf is accessible and open for inspection.
While the form of embodiment of the invention as herein disclosed constitutes a preferred form, it is to be understood that other forms might be adopted as may come within the scope of the claims which follow.
What is claimed is as follows:
1. An electric oven including walls enclosing an oven compartment, electric heating means within the compartment for heating the oven, a shelf within the compariA ment, means for movably mounting said shelf within the compartment, two adjacent doors cooperating to close the compartment, the outer surface of one of the walis being provided with guide means, a traveler upon said guide means, links pivotally connecting said traveler and said doors, and link means extending from said shelf around the front edge of said wall to said traveler for moving the shelf along with the traveler.
2. An electric oven including walls enclosing an oven compartment, electric heating means within the compartment, a shelf within the compartment, means for movably mounting said shelf within the compartment, two adjacent doors cooperating to close the compartment, the bottom surface of the bottom wall being provided with guide means, a traveler upon said guide means, links pivotally connecting said traveler and said doors, li'l' means extending from said shelf around the front edge said bottom wall to said traveler for moving the shelf along with the traveler, the front edge of said bottom wall being provided with a notch for providing room for the link extending around the front edge of said bottom wall.
3. An electric oven including walls enclosing an oven compartment and providing a door opening, an electric heating means within the compartment for heating the oven, a shelf within the compartment, means for movably mounting said shelf within the compartment, door means cooperating with said Walls to close the door opening of said compartment, the outer surface of one of the 5 References Cited in the le of this patent UNITED STATES PATENTS Blake Mar. 3, Wilson Nov. 21, Goldberg June 24, Burt June 14,
