IMPROVEMENT IN CURRY-COMBS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 202,436, dated April 16, 1878; application filed February 2, 1878.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEWIS ALBRO GRIs- WOLD, of Marshfield, in the county of Athens and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Curry-Combs, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is an edge View of my improved curry-comb. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same, taken through the line :20 m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the handle.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts. I I The object of this invention is to furnish an improved curry-comb which shall be double, and so constructed that the combs may be exchanged, thus forming four curry-combs in one, and which shall be simple in construction, strong, and durable.
The invention consists in an improved currycomb formed of the wire bent to form a V- shaped frame, and a hanging-loop, the handle,
and the comb-plates, having their ends bent around the wire, and kept at the proper distance apart by tubular washers, as hereinafter fully described.
The frame A of the curry-comb is made of a single piece of wire, which is bent together at the middle, and is passed longitudinally through the handle B. Each part of the wire,
at the forward end of the handle B, is bent outward, then forward, is bent into V shape, is bent inward and rearward, and the ends are inserted in the forward end of the said handle B.
A washer is slipped over the projecting center fold of the wire A to rest against the outer end of the handle B, and the said fold is then spread apart,'for the double purpose of securing the, said handle and frame together and A to form a loop for hanging the curry-comb up.
0 are the comb-plates, the sides of which are bent up at right angles, and their edges are serrated. The ends of the middle parts of the comb-plates O are bent over the wire A, as shown in Fig. 2, and are kept at the proper distance apart by tubular washers D, placed between them upon the said wire A. This construction forms a double curry-comb.
When the forward combs become worn, their ends are unfastened from the wire A, and the first and third plates 0 upon each side are exchanged and turned end for end, and the second or middle comb-plates are turned end for end. The ends of the plates 0 are then clasped around the Wire A, making the curry-comb as good as new.
With this construction the curry-comb will last four times as long as an ordinary currycomb, and will cost but little more. The currycomb may be made with an open or a closed back, as may be desired.
'Havin g thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An improved curry-comb formed of the wire A, bent to form a V-shaped frame, and ahanging-loop, the handle B, and the comb-plates 0, having their ends bent around the wire A, and kept at the proper distance apart by tubular washers D, substantially as herein shown and described.
LEWIS ALBRO GRISWOLD.
