Description
G, 85 H. PIPER.
Rein-Holder.
No.-202,189. Patented April'9, 1878.
N. PETERS, FHOTO-LITNOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. D C
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
' GUSTAV PIPER AND HENRY PIPER, OF NEW HOLSTEIN, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN RElN-H-OLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 202,189, dated April 9, 1878 application filed February 15, 1878.
To all whom'it may concern:
Be it known that we, GUSTAV PIPER and HENRY PIPER, of New Holstein, in the county of Calumet and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rein-Holders and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts in both the figures.
Our invention relates to rein-holders; and consists in an improved construction and combination of parts, having for its object the adjustability of the holder upon slanting or inclined dash -boards, substantially as hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings, A is a bifurcated casting, the downward-projecting arms of which are provided with screw-holes a, for securing it upon the dash-board. (Shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2.) The top of the plate or casting A is curved, as shown at b, to fit over the upper rail of the dashboard, and is provided with one or more screw-holes, c.
The holder proper consists of the base-plate B, curved to fit the curve of the head of plate A, upon which it is secured adjus-tably by a set-screw, d, and the standards 0 0, one of which, 0, is rigidly secured upon plate B,
while the other, 0, swings upon a vertical pivot, and is operated by a spring, D. Plate B has a slot, 6, through which screw d passes, as shown.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings, the operation of our invention will be readily understood. Plate A is secured upon the dash-boardin the manner shown in Fig. 2, after which screw d is loosened, and the rein-holder is adjusted in a vertical position, after which screw d is again tightened. The reins are inserted between the stationary standard 0 and the movable jaw C and, retained firmly in place by the tension of spring D.
Having thus described our improvement, we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of. the United States The combination of the fastening-plate A, having curved head I) and screw;holes c c, with the rein-holder O O B, the base-plate B of which is slotted and curved to fit the curvature of head b of plate A, upon which it is secured adj ustably by a set-screw, d, projecting up through the slot a, substantially asand for the purpose herein shown and specified.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we have hereto affixed our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
GUSTAV PIPER. HENRY PIPER.
Witnesses HENRY LIMBURG, HENRY HAYSSEN.
