Description

A. A. DANZIG. Under Garment.
No. 202,001. Patented April 2,1878.
monuzvsi PETERS, PNOTO-iJ THOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON, DC.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ABRAM A. DANZIG, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN UNDER-GARMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 202,00 1, dated April 2, 1878; application filed February 25, 1878.
I To all whom it may concern:
the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Under- Garment for Ladies; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in the class of ladies underwear or under-garments which consists of chemise and drawers combined.
The invention relates particularly to an improved manner of constructing the garment, and to certain attachments therefor, as hereinafter described, and as shown in accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a front view, and Fig. 2 a rear view, of my improved garment and its attachments; and Figs. 3, 4, 5 are detail views.
The garment is mainly cut and made up from two pieces of cloth,AA,wh'ich are united at two points only-namely, at the lower part a of the body, and at the top of the back-by a scam, I). The legs have inner scams 0. 'The garment is closed in front by buttoning, but is entirely open on the under side and back from a point, at, around to the shoulder or back scam I). The front edges of the parts A A have broad hems, and are lapped and sewed together at the point a. It is desirable the length or space for which the parts A A are permanently connected in front shall be as short, and yet that the means of connection shall be as strong, as possible consistent with a proper and economical construction of the garment. This result I effect by the location and mode of connection adopted, as shown at a.
It will be seen that I dispense with all ordinary seams, save the one by which I unite the two parts of the garment in the back.
A belt, B, having flaps d, slides in loops stitched to the middle or waist portion of the garment. The flaps serve for attachment of strings or straps (not shown) for supporting a diaper, when required; and hence the weight of the latter is sustained from the shoulders, instead of being, as usual, supported by a string encircling the waist. By this means both health and comfort are promoted.
I attach pockets or pouches O to the breast or top front portion of the garment, for the purpose of holding bosom-pads. These pockets are important to the dress, since they prevent the pads moving or being misplaced by motion of the body. The lower end 0 of the pockets is free or unattached, to allow freedom of fold or adjustment to the fulness of the chemise. The top portion of the pockets is attached by a button, t, or analogous fastening, to permit the convenient insertion and removal of the pads, and to secure them in the pocket When placed therein.
The garment, as a whole, secures economy and promotes the convenience, comfort, and health of the wearer.
I denominate the garment chemise drawers.
I am aware garments having more or less similarity to mine form the subjects of Patents No. 83,447 and N 0. 166,190; but I claim 110thing therein shown; nor do I claim, broadly, pockets for holding detachable pads; but
What I claim is 1. The improved under-garment herein described, the same being formed of the two parts A A, united at two points-namely, in front, at the lower portion a of the body of the garment where the hemmed edges are lapped and stitched together, and at the backby a single shoulder-seam, b, the part above the point a being adapted to be closed by buttoning, and the part between points a and b left open, all constructed and arranged as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
2. In combination with an under-body-garment, constructed substantially as described, and having loops at the waist, the belt provided with flaps, as and for the purpose speci- 3. In combination with the under-garment, the pad-pockets, attached at the sides thereof, and unattached at top and bottom, as and for the purpose specified.
