Description

` ing the false bosom in place.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEON LEMOS, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
SHIRT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 285,046, dated September 18, 1883.
Application filed February S, 1SS2. (No model.)
To all r11/1,0m, may concern.-
Beit known that I, LEON LEMos, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Shirts, of which the following is aspeciication.
This invention relates to a means whereby a soiled bosom or front of a shirt may be removed and a clean bosom or front be substituted therefor.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specication, Figure 1` is a front .elevation showing the false bosom removed and one pocket or flap partially turned up. Fig. 2 is a front elevation show- Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the false front or bosom.
Heretofore great dificulty has been experienced in confining or keeping a detachable shirt-front in position and make it agreeable and pleasant to the wearer. overcome by making suitable pockets, A,along each side of the shirt-front by means of diagonal or inwardly-inclined bands 'or strips of cloth, B. These bands extend from the shoulder-straps or sustaining-bands C, thelatter being connected to the neckband D of the shirt, and pass down to the point where the sleeves are inserted.V From the, point of this connection with the shoulder-straps the bands .or strips are carried down the front of the body of x the shirt to the cross-band E, at which points`the ends are securedby stitching. The outer edges of these pockets are stitched to the I This difiiculty I body of the shirt, so as to conform to the outlines of the bosom or front to be inserted, and the inner edges are provided with a stitching to form a seam, and the faces of the pockets are starched and polished, so as to conform to the appearance of the frontv or bosom. A button-hole, F, is made in the body of the shirt, in which a stud is placed, which en gages with the buttonhole G of the bosom, and this, with the stud or button of the neckband, prevents the bosom from moving upward or downward, while all projecting points or edges of the bosom or front are covered and held in place by the pockets. By this construction it is obvious that shirts can be eniployed having the ordinary bosom or front attaehed in the usual way and provided with a button-hole in the lower part thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
'Ihe herein-described shirt, having a front or pocket formedwith diagonal bands B B and lower cross-band, E, and a detachable boson1` adapted to t said pocket, where it is held by studs engaging in button-holes formed in the bosom and in the shirt-front, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 21st day of 65 January, 1882.
' LEON LEMOS. [11. s] -Titnessesz C. XV. IWI. SMITH,
Crus. E. KELLY.
