DETACHABLE CROTCH GIRDLE Filed May '7, 1955 Patented Oct. 8, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFlCE- 2,916,990 DETAOHABLE onoron Gmnrn Sam Davis, New York, N. Y. P Application May 7, 1935, SerialNo. 20,249
- 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a detachable crotch girdle and has foran object to provide an improved girdle having a readily attachable and detachable crotch.
Girdles are generally made of elastic stretchable material and as such are rather difficult to wash properly. Due to this fact girdles in use are apt to become more or less insanitary' especially in the crotch portion. Attempts have been made to meet this problemby omitting the crotch all together, but when this is done it is diflicult to keep the girdle properly in position and further 'the girdle is not very satisfactory in use.
In order to overcome this objection, this invention provides a detachable crotch portion in the girdle which crotch portion may be quickly and easily detached from the girdle and a fresh clean crotch piece may be quickly and easily attached as a substitute therefor. The soiled crotch piece may then meantime be laundered and made sanitary so as to replace the other crotch piece that is meantime to become soiled; Obviously, any number of separate crotch pieces may be provided for an individual girdle of this invention so that it is not essential to launder the'individual crotch piece so often.
As a further feature of'this inventionthe attaching means for the crotch piece and the girdle is so cooperative that the crotch piece remains firmly in position and does not bear uncomfortably against the body of the wearer .in any peel-- tion. As an additional feature, the crotch piece has a selvage edge similar to the selvage edge'on the girdle and forming a continuation thereof when in attached position.
An additional feature and advantage of this invention is that the crotch piece may be temporarily detached while wearing this girdle in order to perform the natural functions. Yet a further feature of this invention is that the separable crotch piece is substantially rectangular in outline whereby it may be made with no waste of material as would be necessary were .it of irregular outline. The crotch'piece itself will be made of a material that may be easily laundered, such as silk, glove silk, rayon, cotton and like material, while the remainderof the girdle may continue to'be made of the usual elastic filled stretchable material that need be laundered at .less frcquentintervals.
With the foregoing and other objects in view,
I as will hereinafter'become apparent, this invention comprises the constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, hereinafter set forth.
ing. .In this drawing,
Figure 1 is a front plan view of the girdle in operative position,
Figure 2 is a sectional view through the center 5 of the girdle looking toward one side, the detach able crotch piece having been removed,
Figure 3 is a pla rview of the detachable crotch piece, and
Figure '4"is anelevational view showing the 10 crotch piece being appliedto the girdle. J
'Ifhere is shown at I0 a girdle made of the usual heavy knit elastic material having an upper selvage edge H about the waist line and the lower .selvage edge if extending about the lower edges 15 edges iii of the crotch piece l5 will preferably be 25 selvage edges similar to the selvage edges H and l2 and. in assembled position the selvageedges l6 form continuations .of the. selvage edges l2 on the leg portions 13, The othertwo edges ll of the crotch piece l5 are provided with reinforcing tape portions l8 securely stitched to the crotch piece It as atis and 20. Thetape portions l8 provide asupport for the fastening means secured to the inner side thereof and projecting therethrough, this fastening means comprising snap members. Preferably the maleportion of the snap member such as 2| is extended through the tape i8 and then secured thereto by stitching 22 before the tape I8 is stitched in position as at l9 and 20. On the girdle I 0 the. crotch piece securing means includes a similar tape piece 23 having secured to the underside thereof a plurality of female portions 24 of the snap fasteners by means of stitching". With the suitable appropriately spaced .number of female portions 24 of snap fasteners thereon, the tape 23 is secured to the top of a relatively non-stretchable tape material 26.
This non-stretchable tape piece '26 is secured along the crotch edge by means of a selvage edge 21 with a heavy knitted elastic portion of the girdle I 0. As a result of such construction the crotch piece l5 makes the leg portions l3 form fitting about the legand the crotch thus making the entire girdle l0 neat and formfitting.
this has happened it is quickly and easily removed for laundry by separating the snap fasteners and a new or freshly laundered crotch piece I! is placed in position. This can be done either while the girdle is on the body of the user,
' 0r.,whlle the girdle has been removed from the body of the user. Furthermore, the crotch piece ll may be easily temporarily detached to permit the natural functions and then may be replaced position thereafter. r en in position the crotch piece I5 makes th girdle Just as neat and as form fltting as though the crotch piece l5 were an integral and non-separable part of the girdle so that the advantages of a girdle having a non-separable crotch piece are preserved while adding thereto the advantages of a girdle having a separable crotch piece. By making the crotch piece substantially rectangular in outline there is a considerable economy in manufacture and elimination of any waste pieces, as the maximum number of crotch pieces can be cut from a given bolt of material when the pieces are of this regular rectangular outline.
It is thus possible to inexpensively provide a number of separable crotch pieces to accompany each girdle as it is sold to the used so that a freshly laundered crotch piece may be used each time that the girdle is placed on the body of the user if so desired. The girdle itself being of a heavy knitted elastic .material can likewise be laundered whenever needed, but due to its construction it is naturally a more difllcult problem to launder the girdle itself as with this invention the excessive wear and tear of too frequent laundering of the girdle itself is avoided, thereby lengthening the life of the girdle which is comparatively expensive compared to the crotch piece itself which may be laundered with every use.
The novel features and the operation .of this' A form fitting girdle of elastic material having a cut-out crotch at the front and rear and a detachable crotch piece of inelastic material adapted to fit such cut-out crotch, and cooperative fastening means on said girdle and ,on said crotch piece for attaching said crotch piece to said girdle. said fastening means on said girdle including an inelastic tape along the sides of the cut-out crotch, said girdle being provided with I selvage edges, and two opposite edges of the detachable crotch piece being provided with selvage edges adapted to form a continuation of the selvage edges of the leg portion when 1n position, the inelastic fastening tapeof said girdle holding the elastic girdle in form fitting position en- -abling the girdle to be used without the crotch piece.
