This invention relates to improvements in bottle lifting devices.
The principal object of the invention is to produce a device which may be employed to 5 grip the top of a bottle or jar, so that the same may be carried or lifted and released with a minimum amount of effort and without employing two hands to accomplish the picking up or releasing operation.
10 A further object is to produce a device which is economical to manufacture.
A still further object is to produce a device which may be readily cleansed and therefore, one which is sanitary.

There are many times when it is desired to lift jars, bottles and the like, without actually 30 contacting the same. Applicant has devised a simple mechanism which enables the user to grasp the jar firmly, transport it and release it in a most eflicient manner.
In the accompanying drawing wherein for the 35 purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a tubular stem to which is secured a cross piece 6. Pivoted to the cross piece 6 as at l and 8 are arms 9 and II, respectively. Formed upon 40 the lower ends of these arms are yokes I2 and I3, respectively and extending between the arms is a spring M. This spring tends to keep the arms moved toward each other at all times. Secured to the upper ends of the arms adjacent the 45 pivot, are triangular brackets l6 and H. The tips of these brackets are contacted by a pusher I8 which is secured to the bottom end of a plunger l9. This plunger extends to a point above the finger piece 2] which is secured to the tubular member 5.
In the modified form of the device as shown in Fig. 4 the main difierence is that the cross piece 5 6 and arms 9 and I I of the form shown in Fig. 1, have been changed by substituting spring material, in the form of a U-shaped member 22, thus eliminating the necessity for the hinges I and 8, the action being the same in that when 10 the plunger I9 is pressed, the pusher [8 acts upon the brackets I6 and I1 and causes the U-shaped member 22 to spread its arms in an obvious manner thus effecting the gripping or releasing of the jar or bottle.
In the preferred form in Fig. 1, the movement of the plunger IS with relation to the tubular member 5 causes the member I 8 to push upon the ends of the brackets I6 and I! to effect a pivotal action of the arms 9 and II. The movement of one of these arms is shown in dotted lines of Fig. 1.
It is to be understood that the forms of my invention herewith shown and described are to be taken as preferred examples of the same and 2 that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
In a device of the character described a tubular member, a cross piece secured to said tubular member, a pair of arms pivoted to the outer ends of said cross piece and having gripping yokes at their lower ends, angle brackets secured to said arms, a plunger extending through said tubular member and having a pusher arranged at its lower end, said pusher b eing substantially U-shaped in cross section and adapted to contact the inner ends of said angle 40 brackets along their top edges and their side edges to cause the expanding movement of said arms, and a spring connecting said arms together to cause their retraction toward each other whereby an object may be gripped between V the gripping yokes thereof.
