PATENT OFFICE.
RUSSELL C. STOKES, OF PORTLAND, OREGON.
MILK-BOTTLE CARRIER.
Application filed April 26,
My invention relates to apparatus for carrying bottles as a class. V
The object of my invention is to provide a device which is simple, effective and positive in its action, either when .applied or when released, and which will be locked when in a position for carrying.
The invention further provides a device which can positively be operated with ease with one hand.
I achieve these objects, as well as other advantages, by the construction, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part hereof.
Like parts are represented by like characters in the various figures of the drawings.
Fig. l is afront elevation of the device in secured position on a milk bottle.
Fig. 11 is a side elevation of Fig. I.
F IIIis a front elevation of the device just ready either to be applied or to be taken off.
Fig IV is a side elevation of Fig. III.
The device itself is predominantly of heavy wire construction and consists mainly of four connected parts arranged as follows i let, a vertical bail member 1 having its lower ends integrally connected by an upwardly extending half-collar 2;
2d, a co-operating half-collarB, hingedly connected at the lower end ofthe bail, and constituting, with the former half-collar, a gripping means;
8d, a vertically slidable operating means 4 having a pair of depending fingers 5 terminating with eyes 6; these eyes encompassing and acting upon the upstanding por tions of the gripping half-collars 2 and 3;
4th, the handle member 7 engaging the free ends of the bail.
The operating means 4 has at its upper middle portion a depending inverted T- shaped portion8, to press down upon when opening the device for application to the neck of a bottle, or when releasing after use as a carrier. It will be noted that the ver-' 1928. Serial No. 273,003.
tical portions of the bail 1 have kinks at 9 these are for purposes of locking the operating means in the upper position. It will be further noted that there are horizontal kinks 10 in the half-collar 3; these are for the purpose of making a positive and complete separation of the two half-collars 2 I and 3.
Now as to operation: When it is desired 7 to place the carrier on a bottle it is necessary only to press on the portion 8 of the operating means .4. and open to a position as shown in Fig. III, and then by placing device over top of bottle, grasping said part longitudinal bail member integrally terminating in reversely' extending legs with a halt-collar thereon, a co-operating half-collar having legs hingedly connected at one end of the bail and comprising with the other halt-collar a gripping means, longitudinally slldable operating means having a pair of depending fingers terminating with eyes, the
eves surrounding and being slidable upon the legs of both collars, said means being positioned to allow it to press the cooperating collar outwardly and to draw it inwardly to release or close the collar grips, an integral handle portion, kinks in the bail to engage I 4; and drawing toward the handle 7 the gripthe operating means when next to the handle, and-transverse kinks in the co-operating half-collar positioned to allow them to force the said half-collar outwardly when the operating means is pressed away from the hanposition when the means is moved toward the handle.
