BOTTLE-CARRYING DEVICE.
Application filed March 15, 1926. Serial No. 94,835.
My invention relates to a bottle carrying device.
The object of my invention is toprovide a holder for milk bottles or other containers of various sizes which is easily applied or removed.
A further object of my invention is to provide an inexpensive though sturdy device which will facilitate the handling of glass bottles either singly or in multiple.
These and other objects will hereinafter be more fully explained.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. l is a side View of the holder in position on the neck of a glass bottle of the type which is generally-used as a milk container.
Fig. 2 is an elevation of the holder when disengaged.
The mechanism herein disclosed consists of a wire bail 1 having a curvature centrally disposed, the radius of which is approximately the same as that of the neck of a milk bottle.
A transverse curve is then provided for each of the bail members, whereby the straight portions tangent therewith are approximately in alignment with the bottle longitudinally. The upper end portions of the bail members have reversed curvatures as atC to the last said curvatures and a right angle bend of each bail member extending toward each other and in alignment to engage axiallyin a apertured handle 2, the ends of the right angle portions being in close proximity as shown at A. The bail thus formed positions the handle to one side of the axial alignment of the bottle by which means the yoke 3 here inafter described will co-act with the bail. gripping firmly to the neck of the bottle lwhen being raised.
A yoke gripping means 3 is attached to the bail 1 as indicated at B, and slidably engaging thereon. Both of the members 1 and 3 are shaped to conform to the periphery of'the bottle neck when in carrying position, and when disengaged will the rim of the bottle 4;.
permit easy passage of When the holder is in position on the neck of the bottle and a lifting or vertical force in an upward direction is applied to the handle 2 the offset at C of member 1 causes a pressure at the points D and E by means ofthe curvature of the bail at D, resulting in a grip on the bottle neck below the rim which increases in proportion tothe Weight of the bottle and its contents.
The holder herein described is preferably made of iron wire but I do not confine the holder to any particular type of material.
The mechanism herein disclosed may be applied as a carrying means for jars having tops of greater diameter and a rim thereon under which the yoke will engage.
The mechanism will also function as a clutch gripping to a form with out relying on a rim or enlargement to prevent passage from the end thereof. Therefore modifications will be employed to meet the various conditions and objects to be carried; and other modifications may be employed as lie within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a bottle carrying device, in combination with the neck of a bottle, a hail of the kind described having a centrally disposed curve and transversely positioned curves to the first said curve for each of the bail members, and a reverse curve to the second said curve to engage with a handle member, whereby the handle is eccentrically positioned to the vertical axis of the neck of a bottle, a yoke mem her having both ends looped to form eyes to slidably engage on the bail so that by raising the bottle the centrally disposed curve of the bail and the yoke will grip on the neck there of by reason of the eccentrically positioned handle to the axis of said bottle.
