- This application claims the benefit under 35 U.S.C. §119(a) of Korean Patent Application No. 10-2009-0063414, filed on Jul. 13, 2009, in the Korean Intellectual Property Office, the entire disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference for all purposes.
- 1. Field
- The following description relates to a hermetic type compressor, and in particular, to a hermetic type compressor in which an electric component bracket installed on an outer surface of a hermetic container to be connected to an electric component cover may be easily changed in design and replaced with a new electric component bracket.
- 2. Description of the Related Art
- In general, a hermetic type compressor employed by a cooling apparatus of an air conditioner or a refrigerator to compress a refrigerant includes a compression unit and a drive unit provided in a hermetic container. The compression unit performs compression of the refrigerant, and the drive unit provides driving force to compress the refrigerant.
- The drive unit generally may include a motor, and connection terminals may be installed on the hermetic container so as to apply power to the drive unit.
- One end of each connection terminal may be exposed to the outside of the hermetic container, and the other end of each connection terminal may be connected to the driving unit within the hermetic container. Electric components relating to drive of the drive unit, such as an overload protector and a relay, may be connected to the ends of the connection terminals exposed to the outside of the hermetic container.
- Such electric components may be protected by an electric component cover, and an electric component bracket to be connected to the electric component cover may be provided on the outer surface of the hermetic container around the connection terminals.
- In a conventional hermetic type container, the electric component bracket is made of a thin metal sheet and is fixed to the outer surface of the hermetic container by welding. A hole to expose the connection terminals is formed through the center of the electric component bracket, and fastening structures to be fastened to the electric component cover are provided at the edge of the electric component bracket.
- Therefore, the electric components are connected to the connection terminals under the condition that the electric component bracket is welded onto the outer surface of the hermetic container. Under this state, the electric component cover is connected to the electric component bracket so as to cover the electric components.
- However, in the conventional hermetic type container, in which the electric component bracket is fixed to the outer surface of the hermetic container by welding, the electric component bracket may be difficult to replace, thereby causing an inconvenience.
- In the conventional hermetic type container, if the electric component bracket is partially damaged or is defective, replacement of only the electric component bracket is difficult, and thus it may be necessary to replace the overall hermetic container including the electric component bracket with a new one.
- Further, the number of the electric components may be changed or the electric components may be changed into other kinds according to the specifications of the hermetic type compressor. When the number or kinds of the electric components are changed, a type of the electric component cover to cover the changed electric components needs to be changed and the electric component bracket also needs to be replaced with a new type corresponding to the changed type of the electric component cover. Further, the type of the electric component cover may be changed according to an internal structure of a cooling apparatus in which the hermetic type compressor is installed even if the same electric components are covered with the electric component cover, and in this case, the electric component bracket needs to be replaced with a new type corresponding to the changed type of the electric component cover. That is, various types of electric component brackets are required according to user environments.
- However, since the replacement of the electric component bracket fixed to the hermetic container with a different type of electric component bracket is difficult, if a new electric component bracket having a different specification is required in a conventional hermetic type compressor manufacturing line, manufacturing equipment to install the new electric component bracket on the outer surface of the hermetic container is prepared.

- A hermetic type compressor may be employed by a cooling apparatus of a refrigerator or an air conditioner to compress a refrigerant, and include a hermetic container forming an external appearance of the hermetic type compressor.
- As shown in the example of
FIG. 1 , acompression unit 100 to perform compression of the refrigerant and adrive unit 200 to provide driving force to compress the refrigerant may be installed in thehermetic container 1. Thedrive unit 200 includes a motor including astator 210 and arotor 220, and arotary shaft 230 to transmit the driving force of thedrive unit 200 to thecompression unit 100 is pressed into therotor 200. - The
compression unit 100 includes apiston 120 connected to aneccentric part 231 formed at one end of therotary shaft 230 through a connectingrod 110 and rectilinearly reciprocating within a compression chamber. - When the
rotor 220 is rotated through electrical interaction between thestator 210 and therotor 220 by applying power to thestator 210 through the above structure, therotary shaft 230 pressed into therotor 220 is rotated together with the rotation of therotor 220, and thepiston 120 connected to theeccentric part 231 of therotary shaft 230 through the connectingrod 110 rectilinearly reciprocates within the compression chamber, achieving compression of the refrigerant. - The hermetic type compressor may generally refer to a reciprocating compressor including a compression unit having a connecting rod and a piston. Hermetic type compressors may generally include a rotary compressor, each of which includes a drive unit driven by power, regardless of types of compression units, and a compression unit to perform compression of a refrigerant through driving of the drive unit.
- As shown in the examples of
FIGS. 1 and 2 , ahermetic container 1 is formed by connecting an upper container 11 and alower container 10 to each other.Connection terminals 31 for connection withelectric components 20 relating to driving of thedrive unit 200, i.e., applying of power to thedrive unit 200, are installed at one side of thelower container 10. Theconnection terminals 31 are installed on thelower container 10 through aterminal housing 30. Theterminal housing 30 passes through one side of thelower container 10, and theconnection terminals 31 pass through theterminal housing 30 such that one end of eachconnection terminal 31 is exposed to the outside of thehermetic container 1 and the other end of eachconnection terminal 31 is connected to thedrive unit 200 in thehermetic container 1.Electric components 20 relating to driving of thedrive unit 200, including anoverload protector 21 and arelay 22 are connected to the ends of theconnection terminals 31 exposed to the outside of thehermetic container 1. Various kinds of theoverload protector 21 and therelay 22 may be used, and theelectric components 20 may include other electronic parts relating to driving of thedrive unit 200 in addition to theoverload protector 21 and therelay 22. Theoverload protector 21 and therelay 22 are illustrated simply to show examples of electric components relating to the driving of thedrive unit 200. - The
electric components 20 located at the outside of thehermetic container 1 are covered with anelectric component cover 40. Anelectric component bracket 50 to be connected to theelectric component cover 40 is provided on the outer surface of thehermetic container 1 around theconnection terminals 31. - The hermetic type compressor is configured such that the
electric component bracket 50 may be replaced with a new one according to user environments. - That is, with reference to
FIGS. 2 to 7 , for example, in a hermetic type compressor, bracket fixing members 60 are provided on the outer surface of thelower container 10 around theconnection terminals 31 such that theelectric component bracket 50 is detachably connected to thebracket fixing members 60.First fastening units 61 are provided on thebracket fixing members 60, andsecond fastening units 51, which may be detachably connected to thefirst fastening units 61, are provided on theelectric component bracket 50. - Therefore, in the hermetic type compressor, if replacement of the
electric component bracket 50 is required according to user environments, such as if the type of theelectric component cover 40 is changed as the number or the kinds of theelectric components 20 are changed, the design of theelectric component cover 40 is changed, or theelectric component bracket 50 is damaged, theelectric component bracket 50 may be simply replaced with a new one. - The
bracket fixing members 60 may be formed in the shape of a small metal piece, and regions of thebracket fixing members 60 may respectively form thefirst fastening units 61. Thefirst fastening unit 61 of eachbracket fixing member 60 includes aprotrusion part 61 a protruded outwardly from the outer surface of thehermetic container 1 when eachbracket fixing member 60 is installed on the outer surface of the hermetic container, and a hangingpart 61 b having a cross-sectional area greater than that of theprotrusion part 61 a and provided at one end of theprotrusion part 61 a. The other end of theprotrusion part 61 a opposite to the hangingpart 61 b forms a fixingsurface 62 welded to the outer surface of thelower container 10 to fix eachbracket fixing member 60. - The
electric component bracket 50 may be formed in the shape of a thin metal sheet. Anexposure hole 52 to expose theconnection terminals 31 and theterminal housing 30 is formed through the center of theelectric component bracket 50. In this example, eachsecond fastening unit 51 is provided in the shape of a hole formed through theelectric component bracket 50 around theexposure hole 52. - Each
second fastening unit 51 includes a hangingpart pass hole 51 a configured to pass the hangingpart 61 b of thefirst fastening unit 61, and a protrusion partfitting hole 51 b formed at the top of the hangingpart pass hole 51 a and having a width corresponding to the width of theprotrusion part 61 a such that theprotrusion part 61 a of thefirst fastening unit 61 may be fitted into the protrusion partfitting hole 51 b. The hangingpart pass hole 51 a and the protrusion partfitting hole 51 b are formed so as to be communicated with each other. A length of the protrusion partfitting hole 51 b in the vertical direction may be equal to or be greater than by a designated length a thickness of theprotrusion part 61 a in the vertical direction. - Therefore, when the
electric component bracket 50 is fastened to thebracket fixing members 60 under the condition that thebracket fixing members 60 are welded onto thehermetic container 1, theelectric component bracket 50 may move toward thehermetic container 1 under the condition that theelectric component bracket 50 is located in front of thebracket fixing members 60 so as to cause the hangingparts 61 b of thefirst fastening units 61 and the hanging part pass holes 51 a of thesecond fastening units 51 to coincide with each other, as shown inFIGS. 4 and 5 , allowing the hangingparts 61 b of thefirst fastening units 61 to pass through the hanging part pass holes 51 a of thesecond fastening units 51. Thereafter, theelectric component bracket 50 is pulled downwards so as to fit theprotrusion parts 61 a of thefirst fastening units 61 into the protrusion part fitting holes 51 b of thesecond fastening units 51, as shown inFIGS. 6 and 7 , for example. Theelectric component bracket 50 may be simply fastened to thebracket fixing members 60 by hanging the hangingparts 61 b of thefirst fastening units 61 onto the protrusion part fitting holes 51 b of thesecond fastening units 51. - When the
electric component bracket 50 is pulled forwardly from thehermetic container 1, under the condition that theelectric component bracket 50 is lifted up such that the hangingparts 61 b of thefirst fastening units 61 and the hanging part pass holes 51 a of thesecond fastening units 51 coincide with each other, so as to allow the hangingparts 61 b to come out of the hanging part pass holes 51 a, theelectric component bracket 50 is separated again from thebracket fixing members 60. Therefore, theelectric component bracket 50 may maintain a state of being firmly fixed to thebracket fixing members 60 unless the hangingparts 61 b of thefirst fastening units 61 come out of the hanging part pass holes 51 a of thesecond fastening units 51 by lifting up theelectric component bracket 50 fastened to thebracket fixing members 60. - To stably maintain the fastened state of the
electric component bracket 50 onto the outer surface of thehermetic container 1, at least twobracket fixing members 60 may be provided around theconnection terminals 31. In one example, threebracket fixing members 60 are disposed in a triangular shape around theterminal housing 30, supporting theelectric component bracket 50 at three points. However, any suitable number ofbracket fixing members 60 may be used. - Further, to prevent or limit movement of the
electric component bracket 50 fastened to thebracket fixing members 60, a protruding length of theprotrusion parts 61 a of thefirst fastening units 61 may be about equal to a thickness of theelectric component bracket 50. -
FIG. 8 illustrates an example in which theelectric component cover 40 is separated from theelectric component bracket 50 fixed to the outer surface of thehermetic container 1 through thebracket fixing members 60. - The
electric component cover 40 may be provided in the shape of a box having one surface opened toward thehermetic container 1. Theelectric component cover 40 may be an injection-molded product made of plastic so as to be elastically deformable, and have a small wall thickness. - The
electric component cover 40 may be detachably connected to theelectric component bracket 50. For this purpose, third fastening units 53 are provided on theelectric component bracket 50, andfourth fastening units 41 to which thethird fastening units 53 may be detachably connected are provided on theelectric component cover 40. - The
third fastening units 53 are formed at the edge of theelectric component bracket 50 so as not to interfere with thefirst fastening units 61 of thebracket fixing members 60. Eachthird fastening unit 53 includes aprotrusion piece 53 a protruded toward theelectric component cover 40, and a hanginghole 53 b formed through theprotrusion piece 53 a. - Further, each
fourth fastening unit 41 includes asupport piece 41 a provided at the inside of the side wall of theelectric component cover 40 and separated from the side wall of theelectric component cover 40 so as to be supported by the inner surface of theprotrusion piece 53 a, and a hangingprotrusion 41 b protruded from the outer surface of thesupport piece 41 a so as to be fitted into the hanginghole 53 b. Thesupport piece 41 a may have a small thickness so as to be elastically deformed to fit into the hanginghole 53 b. - Therefore, the
electric component bracket 50 and theelectric component cover 40 may be detachably fastened to each other under the condition that theelectric component bracket 50 is fixed to the outer surface of thelower container 10 through thebracket fixing members 60. For example, theelectric component cover 40 may be pressed toward thehermetic container 1 while contacting the front surface of theelectric component bracket 50 so as to fit the hangingprotrusions 41 b of thefourth fastening units 41 into the hanging holes 53 b of thethird fastening units 53. - To separate the electric component cover 40 from the
electric component bracket 50, external force may be applied to both side walls of theelectric component cover 40 so as to cause both side walls to get closer to each other. Then, thesupport pieces 41 a of thefourth fastening units 41 may be elastically deformed and thus the hangingprotrusions 41 b may become separated from the hanging holes 53 b of thethird fastening units 53. By pulling theelectric component cover 40 forwardly from thehermetic container 1, theelectric component cover 40 is separated from theelectric component bracket 50. - As described above, in the hermetic type compressor, the
electric component bracket 50 may be detachably connected to the outer surface of thehermetic container 1 through thefirst fastening units 61 of thebracket fixing members 60 connected to the outer surface of thehermetic container 1 and thesecond fastening units 51 provided on theelectric component bracket 50. Thus, if theelectric component bracket 50 is defective or damaged, there may be no need to replace the whole of thelower container 10, as only theelectric component bracket 50 may be replaced. - Further, in the hermetic type compressor, as far as the
first fastening units 61 and thesecond fastening units 51 may be detachably connected to each other, theelectric component bracket 50 may be replaced with any one of various types of electric component brackets in which other structures except for thesecond fastening units 51 are different. Therefore, if a change in design of theelectric component bracket 50 is required, for example, in accordance with a change in design of theelectric component cover 40, or a change in specification of theelectric component bracket 50, theelectric component bracket 50 may be simply replaced with various types of electric component brackets. - Further, in the hermetic type compressor, the
electric component bracket 50 may be fastened to the outer surface of thehermetic container 1 in a simple fit manner. Thus, although a hermetic type compressor manufacturer may manufacture a hermetic type compressor provided with only thebracket fixing members 60, without theelectric component bracket 50, and may provide the hermetic type compressor to a user, the user may easily prepare theelectric component bracket 50 detachably connected to thebracket fixing members 50 of the supplied hermetic type compressor. Otherwise, although a manufacturer simultaneously provides various kinds of electric component brackets having different types to a user, the user may select an electric component bracket desired by the user out of the various electric component brackets as long as the electric component brackets have the same structure of second fastening units. - The bracket fixing members and the second fastening units provided to detachably connect the electric component bracket to the bracket fixing members may be modified into various types differing from the type.
- That is, as shown in
FIGS. 9 to 11 , which illustrate other examples, a pair ofbracket fixing members 60′ is disposed aroundconnection terminals 31 such that thebracket fixing members 60′ are separated from each other by a designated interval in the circumferential direction. However, at least threebracket fixing members 60′ may be provided as far as thebracket fixing members 60′ are disposed around theconnection terminals 31 such that thebracket fixing members 60′ are separated from each other by a designated interval in the circumferential direction. - A pair of
second fastening units 51′ is also provided on anelectric component bracket 50′ so as to correspond to the number of thebracket fixing members 60′. When theelectric component bracket 50′ is rotated under the condition that thesecond fastening units 51′ enter an area between thebracket fixing members 60′, thesecond fastening units 51′ are fastened withfirst fastening units 61′ provided on thebracket fixing members 60′. - The
second fastening units 51′ are provided on the rear surface of theelectric component bracket 50′ around anexposure hole 52 such that thesecond fastening units 51′ are separated from each other by a designated interval in the circumferential direction. In this example, eachsecond fastening unit 51′ includes anextension part 51 a′ extended backwardly from the rear surface of theelectric component bracket 50′, and afitting part 51 b′ bent from theextension part 51 a′ in the radial direction so as to be parallel with theelectric component bracket 50′. - Further, each
first fastening unit 61′ includes a fitting groove into which thefitting part 51′ of thesecond fastening unit 51′ may be fitted while sliding in the circumferential direction when theelectric component bracket 50′ is rotated. That is, thebracket fixing member 60′ is formed to have an arc-shaped cross section, i.e., about an L-shaped cross section and is welded to the outer surface of thehermetic container 10, and thefirst fastening unit 61′ is an arc-shaped fitting groove formed between thebracket fixing member 60′ and the outer surface of thehermetic container 10. - Therefore, in this example, to connect the
electric component bracket 50′ to thehermetic container 10, thefitting parts 51 b′ of thesecond fastening units 51′ enter the area between thebracket fixing members 60′ under the condition that theelectric component bracket 50′ is rotated by an angle of 90 degrees, as shown inFIG. 10 , for example. Thereafter, when theelectric component bracket 50′ is rotated by an angle of 90 degrees in the clockwise direction so as to stand erect, as shown inFIG. 11 , thefitting parts 51 b′ of thesecond fastening units 51′ are fitted into thefirst fastening units 61′ and then theelectric component bracket 50′ may be simply connected to the outer surface of thehermetic container 10. - To prevent or limit movement of the
electric component bracket 50′ under the condition that thefirst fastening units 61′ and thesecond fastening units 51′ are fastened to each other, thefitting parts 51 b′ and thefirst fastening units 61′ may be connected to each other in an interference fit manner. Further, to complete fastening of thefirst fastening units 61′ and thesecond fastening units 51′ to each other under the erect standing state of theelectric component bracket 50′, arestriction protrusion 63 to restrict sliding of thefitting part 51 b′ is provided at one end of eachfirst fastening unit 61′. - In order to separate the
electric component bracket 50′ fixed to the outer surface of thehermetic container 10 from thehermetic container 10, theelectric component bracket 50′ is rotated from the state ofFIG. 11 in the counterclockwise direction so as to be converted into the state ofFIG. 10 . Thefitting parts 51 b′ may come out of thefirst fastening units 61′, and then theelectric component bracket 50′ may simply be separated from thehermetic container 10. - Other parts in this example, except for the first and
second fastening units 61′ and 51, may be the same as those in the examples ofFIGS. 1 to 8 , and an attachment and detachment structure between theelectric component bracket 50′ and theelectric component cover 40 in this example is substantially similar to that described above. - As is apparent from the above description, a hermetic type compressor may enable an electric component bracket for connection with an electric component cover to be detachably connected to the outer surface of a hermetic container through bracket fixing members.
- Therefore, if replacement of the electric component bracket is required according to user environments, such as if the type of the electric component cover is changed as the number or the kinds of electric components are changed, if the design of the electric component cover is changed, or if the electric component bracket is damaged, the electric component bracket may be simply replaced with a new one, and design change of the electric component bracket may be more easily performed.
- A number of examples have been described above. Nevertheless, it will be understood that various modifications may be made. For example, suitable results may be achieved if the described techniques are performed in a different order and/or if components in a described system, architecture, device, or circuit are combined in a different manner and/or replaced or supplemented by other components or their equivalents. Accordingly, other implementations are within the scope of the following claims.
