EUGENER. WEBER, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
' IMPROVEMENT IN WATCH-MAKERS OIL-CUPS.
Specification forming part of Letters .Patent No. 200,883, dated March 5, 1878; application filed September 10, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE R. WEBER, of
the city and county of San Francisco and and 2 are perspective views, showing the lid on and off of the cup.
Let A represent the cup containing the oil, and B its lid or cover. The cover fits securely onto the cup, and is attached to it by a spring, C. The spring C is secured at one end to the top of the cover by one or more 'screws, and extends in an oblique direction through a slot h or groove, D, in the side of the cover, encirclin g the cup, as shown, being secured to the side of the cup by a screw,
When it is desired to remove the cover to reach the oil the operation will be as follows: The cup stands on the bench with its front toward the workman, who, with his thumb and third finger on the base of the cup, holds it,
I while the forefinger slips the cover off to the back side of the cup, where it is held by the spring C, which holds the cover constantly against the cup and in connection with it.
When it is desired to replace the cover the operation is the same, the spring, with a slight touch on the cover with the forefinger, throwing the cover securely in place.
The advantages of my invention will be readily seen by all familiar with the uses of a watch-makers oil-cup. The oil must be kept absolutely free from dust and dirt, in order to be suitable for use; and with the ordinary form of lid, which is easily knocked off the cup, and is very apt to be mislaid and lost, the oilis frequently rendered unfit for use by the dirt which accumulates in it when the coveris left off for any length of time.
By my invention these objections are entirely overcome, and any annoyance from the cover being lost or mislaid is prevented, as the lid is always attached to the cup.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the cup A and its cover B, of the spring 0, encircling the cup and secured thereto and to the cover, substantially as herein shown and described.
