SIEGFRIED WILLERSHAUSEN AND FRANK RHONER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
ROCKING-CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,809, dated February 26, 1878; application filed December 18, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, SIEGFRIED WILLER- SHAUSEN and FRANK RHoNER, both of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Rocking-Chairs, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 represents a vertical central section of a chair containing our improvement. Fig. 2 is a like section, showing amodification thereof. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section in the line as m, Fig. 1.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
Our improvement relates to that class of chairs in which the rockers rest on a base or supporting-frame.
The invention consists in the combination, with either or both rockers of a rocking-chair and a chair-supporting frame, of a pin secured to the rocker or rockers, a spring connected to said pin at one end, and to the supporting-frame at its other end, and of an upwardly-projecting slotted plate secured to said supporting-frame, the slot in said plate being constructed to embrace the pin and to form both a guide and a stop for the pin, and, further, said plate being provided with an openin g to permit the removal of the chair, as will be hereinafter described.
In the drawing, the letter A designates one of the rockers of my chair, and B is one of two rails, which, together with suitable crossthe medium of screws a or other suitable means, and the slot 11 of this plate embraces the pin 0.
The slot b is enlarged toward its upper end, so that it forms a guide and also a stop for the pin 0, causing the chair to stop in a central position. Said slot is also provided with an opening, d, at such a part thereof as not to interfere with its functions as a guide and stop, and at the same time permit of the removal of the pin 0 from the slot, so that the chair can be removed from the supportingframe, when it is desirable, with greatfacility.
The slot 1) has parallel sides through a portion of its lengthnamely, from the lower extremity thereof upwardas shown at b in Fig. 4, whereby its effect as to causing the chair to occupy a central position when at rest is increased, and at the same time the chair is prevented from moving lengthwise or sliding on its supporting-frame.
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with either or both rockers of a rocking chair and a chair-supporting frame, of a pin secured to the rocker or rockers, a spring, which is connected to said pin at one end and to the supporting-frame at its other end, and of an upwardly-projecting slotted plate, secured to said supporting-frame, the slot in said plate being constructed to embrace the pin and to form both a guide and stop for the latter, and provided with an opening to permit the removal of the chair, substantially as described.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands and seals this 14th day of December, 1877.
E. F. KASTENHUBER.
