' This invention relates to ,a certain new and useful improvement in burial garments.

;-And with the above and ,other objects in view, my invention resides in the novel features of form, construction arrangement, and combination of parts presently described and pointed out in the claims.

The coat-sections D, D are constructed of appropriate suiting material and each comprises substantially a half-portion of a mans coat, the coat-sections D, D, being equipped with buttons and button-holes 2 l, respectively.

As will thus be readily understood, the garment comprises a body-covering portion ABC, having similitude to a pants-shirt-vest ensemble, and a. pair of right and left coat-sections D, D attached in cape-like manner, that is to say, approximately at the shoulders or to the collar of the body-portion ABC, the whole being a uni tary garment with the coat-sections D, D, swingable widely from the body-portion ABC for facilitating the dressing of the garment on the corpse, as will shortly appear.

In use, the garment is stretched out, as shown in Figure 2, and dressed, from the front only, upon the corpse. The coat-sections D, D, being attached merely to and at the respective collarsections 1, 1, of the garment, may be readily manipulated for inserting the arms of the corpse into the sleeves IT. The garment is then shifted upwardly on the corpse, and the collar-sections I placed around the neck thereof, the collar-tapes l0 being employed for securing the collar-sections 1 in the neck-embracing position and the tapes I6 being likewise passed under the body and tied for securing the garment at the waist.

The skirt-portion A is then tucked around the limbs and the side margins of the coat-sections D, D, tucked under the torso, the corpse, when in the casket, then having the appearance of a fully dressed person, as shown in Figure 1.

The garment may be readily and inexpensively constructed, efiects a large economy to a family in a distressing situation, and serves most emciently in fittingly presenting a body to the last remembering view of family and friends. 7

It will be understood that changes and modifications in the form, construction, arrangement, and combination of the several parts of the garment may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the nature and principle of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is;-

1. A male burial-garment comprising a shirtfront section for overlying merely the upper portion of the torso of the body and having a split neck-band, a skirt-section stitched only at the central portion of its upper margin to the lower margin of the shirt-section, the side marginal portions ofthe skirt-section being spaced from the shirt-section andfreely foldable about the upper limbs of the body, a vest-front section overlying the shirt-section and the seam between the shirt and skirt-sections and at its side margins stitched to the side margins of the shirt-section, a pair of opposed companion coat-sections attached and fixed only to said neck-band for fitting coatwise upon the body and partially over the vest and skirt-sections, and means including tying-tapes on the vest-section and collar-band for securng the connected sections as a unitary garment on the body.

2. A male burial garment comprising a shirtfront section for overlying merely the upper portion of the torso of the body and having a split neck-band, a reenforcing section flatwise underlying and stitched to the shirt-section, a skirtsection stitched only at the central portion of its upper margin to the lower margin of the shirtsection, the side marginal portions of the skirtsection being spaced from the shirt-section and freely foldable about the upper limbs of the body, vest-front'iorming sections overlying the shirtsection and the seam between the shirt and skirtsections, said vest sections being stitched together along the median line, and at their respective outer side margins stitched to the side margins of the shirt-section, a pair of opposed companion coat-sections attached and fixed only to said neck-band for fitting coat-wise upon the body and partially over the vest and skirt-sections, and means including projecting tabs on the vest-sections and tying-tapes on the tabs and neck-band for securing said connected sections as a unitary garment on the body.

3. A burial-garment comprising, a shirt frontsection to overlie the upper portion of the torso, a skirt-section attached only at the central por tion of its upper margin to the lower margin of the skirt-section, said skirt-section having the side portions thereof unattached to any portion of the garment and freely extending laterally beyond the shirt-section to be freely and independently draped about and around the lower portion of the torso and the upper portion of the limbs, a vest front-section overlying the shirtsection and the upper marginal portion of the skirt-section and unattached to the skirt-section to leave said skirt section for free and independent draping, and means for securing said connected sections as a unitary garment on the body.

4. A bural-garment comprising, a shirt frontsection corresponding substantially to the bosom portion of a shirt to overlie the upperportion of the torso, a skirt-section attached only at the central portion of its upper margin to the lower margin of the shirt-section and having portions extending laterally beyond each side of the shirtsection and unattached to any portion of the garment, said skirt-section being adapted to be freely and independently draped upon the lower portion of the torso and the upper portion of the limbs in simulation of trousers, a vest front-section overlying the shirt-section and connected to the side margins of the shirt front-portion, said vest portion being unattached to the skirt-section and yet extending to cover the line of connection between the shirt-section and the skirt-section, and fastening means associated with said shirt-section and said vest-section to secure such sections in place.
