Description

Patented Apr. 24, 1928.
UNITED STATES, TEN
1 1,667,220 OFFICE.
JAoonmrxIN, orwILKns-BAnnn, PENNSYLVANIA.
UNION GARME T.
Application filed August 10, 1925. Serial No. 49,308.
This invention, which relates toa union The arrangement of the vent as set forth in my patent does not conduce to flat and smooth arrangement of the reinforcing strips but, on the contrary, the vent has a ruffled or puckered appearance. Aside from this, the
fasteners are exposed and the appearance is not as neat as it might be.
I have also found that-with the vent or split arranged on the tops-of the shoulders, there is a tendency for the garment to accidently pull open or apart, particularly when any object is carried on the shoulder.
My object is to provide improvements by which the foregoing defects are eliminated and to provide the vent or split at the front, instead of at the top, of the shoulder part of the garment; to conceal the intermediate fastener for the vent; to so construct and arrange the ventthat it will neither ruffle, pucker, gap, nor pull open accidentally when an object is carried on the shoulder, or at other times, and whereby carrying of an object on the shoulder Will not result in pain or discomfort to the wearer because the vent and the fasteners will be disposed so that the object will not rest on them.
In the union garment of my patent, opening of the vents, is accomplished by a general sideward pull, that is, to the left and right respectively, which is not the natural motion of the hand and arm that should be exercised for the purpose. To enable the vent to be quickly and conveniently opened by a forward and downward pull, is another reason why the vent embodying the present invention has been located at the front of the shoulder, instead of along the top thereof and, for the further reason, that with the vent arranged as set forth hereinafter, it may be more conveniently buttoned or fastened than when it is arranged on top ofthe shoulder.
Furthermore, the present improvements provide for moreeasy and convenient stepping into thegarment or itsremoval than when the vents are on the shoulders.
Apractical embodiment of the inventionis described hereinafter and is disclosed in the accompanyingdrawings, in which Figure 1 is a front view of a union garment provided with the present improvements, the vents beingclosed, showing the a 'ipearance when the. garment is worn; and
Fig. 2 is a front view showing the vents open and the front of the garment spread out to permit the user tostep into it.
he construction of the garmentbeing.
substantially that disclosed in my Patent 1,386,950," except those parts, previously set forth,.whichrelate to the new arrangement, position, and mannerof fastening the vents, only-a brief description ofthe old parts of the garment is necessary.
The garment is of the class embodying a connected blouse and legs or pants parts, particularly overalls. The legs or pants appear at 1', the back is shown at 2, the blouse at 3 and the sleeves appear at 4.
The garment is split from its neck to its crotch at 5 and provided with any suitable fastenings such as 6 therefor, .as usual in garments of this kind. v
WVhere-as the vents of the garment of my Patent 1,386,950 are located on the tops of the shoulders or shoulder parts, and therefore subject to the disadvantages which have been heretofore set forth, in the present garment there is no seam or reinforcement of any kind on the tops of the shoulder parts and the vents are located well down and at the fronts of the shoulder parts. This change of position entirely eliminates discomfort, chafingand pain on the shoulder bones of the wearer when any object of appreciable weight is being carried on either or bothshoulders.
The reinforcements for the vents are sub stantially the same as to seams and stitching as disclosed in my aforesaid patent and specific description thereof is unnecessary.
The vents 7 extend from the neck band 8 downwardly, in a curved shape and general diagonal arrangement to points or locations 9 which reach nearly to the stitching 10 which connects the sleeve to the blouse 3. The vents 7 are located well down from the crests of the shoulders and at the front of the garment. The neck band 8 does not terminate at the front in line with the crests of the shoulder part of the garment but its ends are extended somewhat forwardly and they are provided with parts 11 of suitable 't'astenin 's, for instance sna 1i iastenin 's.
The reinforcements 12 for the underlying parts of the vents are entirely at the fronts of the sl'ioulders, as previously described and they are provided with parts 13 of suitable fastenings, for instance snap fastenings.
The reintorceniients 141 for the overlying upper front parts of the garment are pro vided on their inner faces with parts 15 of tastenings adapted to engage the tastenings 13. The parts 15 are wholly concealed by the overlying parts, thus rendering the garment neater in appearance in the regiono't the vents and making it appear that there are no vents or splits at the fronts of the shoulderparts. t I
The overlying: front parts of the garn'ient have supplemental neck bands 16 provided with t'asteniirgs. for instance parts of snap 'iastenings 17 adapted to engage the fastenings 11. The supplemental neckbands 16 are finished by providing them with'turn- -over or fold-over collar sections 18 which greatly add to the neat appearance of the garment.
hen in use the garment appears as in Fig; 1. \Vhen it is to be put on or taken ofi, the tastenings are disconnected from each other and the trout or overlying; upper parts of'the garment are pulled downward,- ly by a natural hand and arm movement to spread them apart as shown in Fig. 2,whereupon there is afforded a large opening, extending nearly to the arm pits of the earment, enabling the latter to be easily put on or taken ott'when opened as shown in Fig. 2.
hat I claim is: I i
a; union outer garment or overalls comprising a blouse and leg or pants parts, the
blouse having an open front from its neck downwardly and provided with suitable'fastening means therefor, and being provided forward of its shoulder parts below the crests of said shoulder parts with vents extending downwardly in general diagonal arangement from the neck to the general region of the junction of the sleeves with the blouse below the crests of the shoulder parts, the hlouseand the shoulder parts be ing provided with overlapping parts at the vents, and means for fastening; the overlapping parts together.
In testimony whereof]: aflix my signature.
