Description

Aug. 12, 1947. o. SIELOFF 2,425,402
INFANT S GARMENT- Filed May 18', 1944 IN V EN TOR. O/VA SIE L OF F ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 12, 1947 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE INFANTS GARMENT Ona Sielofi, Ferndale, Mich.
Application May 18, 1944, Serial No. 536,065
2 Claims. (01. 2-75) This invention relates to infant wear and has particular reference to a combined outer and undergarment for infants of tender age.
An object of the invention is to provide a garment in which an infant may be dressed without the necessity of excessive handling of the child.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a garment of the character referred to which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and one which is provided with a high degree of esthetic value.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an infants garment which is easily laundered and which may be ironed fiat.
The foregoing objects and other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being made from time to time to the accompanying drawings forming part of the within disclosure, in which drawings:
Fig. 1 is a front view of a garment embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 with the front panel of the garment folded back.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the three panels comprising the garment in outstretched position.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, it will be understood that in the embodiment herein disclosed, my improved infants garment consists of a front panel 5, an intermediate panel 6, and a back panel 1, all of which are finished as at 8 and preferably stitched together along the seams 9 and ID.
The front panel 5 may be formed with pleats l l to provide freedom of movement and for decorativ purposes. It will be noted in Fig. 3 that the back panel 1 is formed of two layers of material 1a and 1b, the layer 1a comprising the outer garment and the layer 12) serving as an undergarment. Each of the panels 5, 6, and l is provided with cut-out portions l2, l3, and [4 at the top to fit the neck, the cut-out portions 12 and I3 in the front panels being lower than the cutout portion M of the back panel. The panels are also formed with cut-out portions l5, [6, I1, and I8 to provide armholes, there being sleeves l9 and 20 sewed to the panels along the cut-out portions I1 and i8 as shown in Fig. 3.
The garment is provided with a plurality of tie ribbons 2|, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 21, 28, 29, and 30 which are used as hereinafter described.
In dressing the infant, the garment is spread out as shown in Fig, 3. The infant is then laid,
'back down, on the panel 1. The infants left arm is then inserted through the armhole l8 and through the sleeve 20 and the right arm is inserted through the armhole l1 and through the sleeve I9. Panel 6 is then drawn across the childs body and assumes the position shown in Fig. 2. In this position the ribbons 25 and 30 are tied together and the ribbons 24 and 29 are tied together as shown in Fig. 2. The panel 5 is then drawn across the panel 6 (Fig. 2) and the ribbon 22 is tied to the ribbon 21 and the ribbon 23 is tied to the ribbon 26, making decorative bows on the left shoulder as shown in Fig. 1. The ribbon 2| is then tied to the ribbon 28, making a decorative bow under the left sleeve as shown in Fig. 1. The device is now completely assembled to form an outer and inner garment both in front and back.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a central panel having a double thickness of material open at the bottom and adapted to serve as respective sections of an outer skirt and an under skirt, a wing panel on either side of said central panel, one of said wing panels being arranged to fold completely over said central panel to form another section of the under skirt, and the other said wing panel being arranged to fold over said first-named wing panel to form another section of said outer skirt, and means to secure said panels in predetermined position.
2. A childs garment comprising a length of material, having a central section of double thickness, and folded and refolded upon itself to provide outer and inner skirt sections, arm cutout portions, and tie members positioned adjacent to said arm cut-out portions, whereby said folds may be secured in predetermined position.
