(Cl. 242-441) The invention relates to a suspensible holder for clews or balls of thread, wool, yarn or the like which holder is adapted to enclose the said clew and to guide the thread from its inside end centrically through an eyelet. The clew holder is to be made of a flexible material such as thick paper, thin cardboard, celluloid, fabric or the like in the shape of a band cross, the four arms of which enclose the ball of thread like a basket and are closed above the said ball by one arm of the cross, having a larger length and being at the time designed as a suspension strip, extending through slotted eyes of the three other arms.

The clew holder according to the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing illustrating an embodiment by Way of example. In said drawing Fig. 1 shows the holder enclosing a clew ready for use and I Fig. 2 the holder without and prior to the insertion of the clew. I

The clew holder has the shape of a cross with three arms a of equal length and an arm a of larger length, the excess of length of which serves as a suspension strip 1) and is at its end provided with a metal eyelet c for its suspension. As Fig. 2 shows the three arms of equal length a are at their ends enlarged so as to have the shape of discs and provided with a slot-like eye d. These slotted eyes of the arms a of equal length are superposed when the holder is ready for use and the arms thereof bent together (Fig. 1), and the end b of the fourth longer arm 01/ passed through the said slotted eyes holds all arms together. The clew or ball of thread It is thus enclosed by the four band-like arms as by a basket and so safely held.

The thread is taken or unwound from the clew centrically from the inside thereof through a metal eyelet'h disposed in the point of intersection of the center lines of the four arms, which eyelet h guides the thread centrically and always presents the end 1 of the thread free and accessible.

The longer arm a serving as a suspension strip is provided at the point of connection of the arms with two lateral notches i into which are drawn the ends of the three other arms a so as to be thus immovably fixed. The top arm a is provided with a tongue 2 intended for being inserted in a cross slot s so as to form a buckle with the opposite arm a.

In order that a larger surface is available for printing the name of the selling firm or a trade mark the arms may be provided with an enlargement r.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a suspensible clew holder made of a flexible material, a band cross enclosing the clew and having three arms of equal length and one arm of larger length, end eyelets in the three equal arms and through which the longer arm extends so as to be adapted to serve as a suspension strip.

2. In a clew holder of flexible material and having three equal arms and one longer arm extending, when the holder encloses the clew, through eyelets of the three other arms, a metal eyelet disposed in the point of intersection of the four arm center lines and intended for centrically guiding and rendering accessible the unwound end of the thread.

3. In a clew holder of flexible material having three equal arms and one longer arm, end eyelets in the equal arms, a metal eyelet in the point of intersection of the arm center lines, a tongue in the arm opposite the longer arm, and a cross slotin the said longer arm into which slot the said tongue is introduced to hold the arms together.

4. In a clew holder of flexible material having three equal arms and one longer arm, end eyelets in the equal arms, a metal eyelet in the point of intersection of the arm center lines, a tongue in the arm opposite the longer arm,

and at the point of connection of the four arms two lateral notches in the longer arm which notches are adapted to immovably fix the arms assembled.
